I was asked by MakeupFix reader Lorie, to devise a look using orange. She had bought MAC Off The Radar pigment from the Rushmetal Collection and since I didn't have that, your girl did some improvising.
MAC Off The Radar pigment is described as "warm orange with gold sparkle" and NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange, seemed to qualify as an excellent dupe.
I'll admit that I was not too impressed with the results, but I surprisingly received a lot of compliments on it so I'll let you be the judge!

Brushes You'll Need:
- MAC 252 (or 242)
- MAC 239
- MAC 222 (or 224)
- MAC 219
- MAC 208
- MAC 217
Eye Products You'll Need:
- Painterly p/p
- NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange (or MAC Off The Radar p/m)
- Clue e/s
- Bell-Bottom Blue p/m
- Shroom e/s (highlighter of your choice)
- Beige-ing s/s
- Blacktrack f/l
- Graphblack Technakohl
How To Get The Look:- Using a firm bristle brush (MAC 252), apply Painterly p/p to lids. I chose to use Painterly p/p in this instance because I didn't feel like I needed to enhance the orange appeal.
- Place NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange all over lid (MAC 239).
- Next, take Clue e/s and blend the edges of NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange (MAC 222).
- Apply Bell-Bottom Blue p/m to the outer 3rd of the lid (MAC 239). Concentrating on the outer most portion of the lid, gradually fade it into the Orange.
- Add a thin layer of Clue e/s over Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 217).
- Deepen the outer crease with Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 219).
- Apply Beige-ing s/s to lower lashline. This will serve as a base for the eyeshadows.
- Line lower lashline with Clue e/s (MAC 219), then outer lower lashline with Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 219).
- Line upper lashline with Blacktrack f/l (MAC 208) and waterline with Graphblack Technakohl.
- Curl your lashes and add your favorite mascara!
I didn't have a chance to take pictures with lipstick on since I was headed out the door and wanted to give smootches to the tykes without the embarrassing mess. But I ended up pairing the look with NYX B52 and a bit of Bare Slimshine to keep it neutral.

Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss gives your lips a shiny wet look with a diamond sparkle effect!
PRICE
The one thing you have to love about NYX is the smashing deal that their products are only a few Washingtons. This means you can have guilt-free impulse shopping with the products of this brand.
PACKAGING
The Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss comes in a sophisticated acrylic-type squared off tubing with a sleek, black twist-off cap. And with any twist-off cap, more specifically those that are shaped anything other than circular, there's bound to be alignment issues when closed completely shut. NYX has snap features in place with their products so no alignment issues here.
It is also equipped with a sturdy, slightly angled sponge tip wand that accompanies smooth application.
TASTE & SMELL
If the smell of plastic doesn't tickle your fancy, then you just might have to pass with this. It does have a pretty displeasing essence of plastic as the sponge tip wand touches your lips but the taste nor smell lingers. Probably not a majority favorite but if you can get over it, then you're good.
As far as taste goes, it's not going to get the best taste award either. It has the same taste of plastic as the smell entails.
PRODUCT CONSISTENCY
This smooth, non-sticky formula works better for my preference. I am not a fan of sticky lipglosses nor ones whose thickness in formula resembles that of butter, so this one plays just right.
I'm always apprehensive about products that have shimmer in it, or in this case "sparkle", because there's always a tendency for the formula to turn a bit chunky upon initial application leading to a lip full of dryness. Surprising enough, I found this particular lipgloss to be somewhat moisturizing.
PRODUCT WEARABILITY
On it's own, the longevity of the product can hang decently for a lipgloss, but I wouldn't consider it the leader of the pack. Although it does have a beautiful sparkling glass look to it and sheer but buildable coverage, the day end result of this on my dry lips left me in definite need of an outer lip exfoliation. I do not touch-up lipgloss the second color fades away for fear of building glob on my lips, but rather touch-up once the product has clearly absorbed into my lips noted by the the semi-stickiness felt when I blot my lips together.
However, with MAC's Lip Conditioner under it, it did MUCH better in regards to maintaining moisture and keeping the dryness at bay. With Lip Conditioner under, I can re-apply the Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss without fear of additional lip exfoliation at the end of the day.
WHAT I LIKE
- The packaging of the product. It's professional looking.
- The wet look with the sparkle.
- The price.
- Doesn't make my lips dry out with Lip Conditioner under.
WHAT I DISLIKE
- The plastic taste/smell of it.
OVERALL
I wouldn't mind having a few of these floating around in my diaper bag. The website shows that there are 15 different colors, so now the only decision is, which one will I get next? :)
YOU'LL PROBABLY LIKE THIS IF...
- you're lips aren't so darn dry like mine are.
- you like the affordability of the lipgloss.
- you dig a bit of shimmer without a sticky formula.
YOU'LL PROBABLY DISLIKE THIS IF...
- you have sensitively dry lips.
- you can't hang with the essence of plastic. It does not linger, but if you can't do it period, then this is for sure a no go.

Going to the store by myself hardly ever happens. I almost feel naked when I don't have to open the back-door to the truck and strap the kids into their carseats. I long for a peace of quiet time to myself yet the chance that I get it, I feel sort of empty.
So on this solo journey, and knowing full well that I had to make my overall trip quick, I figure I'd allow myself a tiny bit of time to peruse through the cosmetics aisle especially since Long's carries NYX on it's shelves. I occupied my time swatching lipsticks so I can get an idea of which colors in the NYX Lips line had no shimmer to it. Shimmer is a big no-no for my lip conditioner spoiled lips.
I found a few that fit into the "no shimmer" category:
Sierra - peach-toned nude
Thalia - lavender rose pink
Violet Ray - deep maroon
B52 - wine tinted nude (swatched to compare with Bravo)
Baby - shimmery baby pink (no-no for me)
Shakira - rose petal pink
Bravo - light brown nude
And despite the fact that I wanted to get all that I swatched (except for Baby), I had a strong talking to myself and only left the store with Shakira, just without the curly hair and belly dancing. I was in the market for a lovely touch of pink since I wanted to craft together a sweet Valentine's Day pink look.
And after it was all said and done, I looked at the clock on my phone and was out of the store within 40 minutes and only ONE makeup product. Although I was aiming for 30 minutes or less because who knows how Hubbo is handling the 2 tykes on his own, I justified my stay with the fact that this will probably never happen again for another month or so.
Well, Monday is here again! Time to defend the front for another 5 days. What gets you through your work-week?

After buying my Ardell Lashes, I found out that they were the same length as my natural lashes so I grabbed another pair of cheapo lashes just to have another style in hand since they are longer in length. I have yet to get eyelash glue that doesn't contain Ammonium Hydroxide like the Duo glue, but Longs just hasn't been in the direction that I've been headed lately.
And remember B52 from my last swatch at Longs? My convenient NYX selling grocery store (I love this!) had it and you know you can't leave a girl hanging. So you can guess who came home with me. And I'm glad because it's such a perfect wine tinted nude color although on my lips it does look more nude. Me gusta!
With controlled makeup purchasing at the top of our New Years Resolutions lists, I think I complied with this simple purchase. I actually had some NYX shadows and a trio in my hand but confidently returned them to their rightful spots on the shelves.

Happy New Years everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful celebration. Here in Hawai'i, celebrating anything is a huge deal so to celebrate New Years, the island goes all out. Fireworks are legal here so the streets are lit and NOISY as hell. Smoke fills the air so bad that the week right before New Years, precautions to wear face masks are announced in the news. It's a very unique atmosphere during this time of year, so if you want to experience a new scene next year, consider coming over :)
Anyhow, we went to Longs yesterday to buy more fireworks and I went to the cosmetics aisle to see if there were any sales in effect. Ardell lashes were on sale for $2.59 (the tag said regular was $3.19, don't know if that's expensive since this is the first time I bought them) so I picked up a pair of 108s.
And still wanting to give NYX lipsticks a chance, I picked up a couple of colors from their Lips line. Just from swatching them I could see that these particular lipsticks were nicely moisturized. They didn't glide on thick or drying at all and enough color came out in one swipe. I wanted to get B52 because it was soooo pretty, but the ones they had were already opened. Casually, I had to say no thanks. But I did get Iced Honey and Twig which are lovely colors as well.
- Iced Honey: Golden beige with shimmer
- Twig: Silky brown-toned mauve
- B52: Wine tinted nude
I am also proud to report that after wearing Twig on my lips for a few hours, my lips didn't flake and dry out!!! This is a relief considering I was impressed with the swatch and had high hopes for its performance. The longevity of the wear could have been due to applying MAC's Lip Conditioner before application (thanks to Kia) but nonetheless I didn't have to start rubbing the product off my lips or picking at the skin. Major plus!!
And then I come home from Longs and find a lovely end-of-the year present from Everyday Minerals - YAY!!! I luuurve presents. Well, not really a present but I got the samples I ordered the other day. Thanks to my love Christiana, I'm slowly migrating to a healthier skin approach. I'm still all about the brighter and bolder eyes which are probably disgusting in their ingredients list, but the rest of me could still be better taken cared of :)
I ordered the Free Sample Makeup Kit which you can choose 3 Foundations, 1 Blush/Face Color, and 1 Concealer. All you pay is shipping which came out to like $3 or $4 for me. The samples are good for 3-6 applications which is just enough to find out if these products will work for you.

It looks like Medium Tan is the one for my arm, but we'll have to see how it comes out on my face :) And just for MAC reference, I'm in the NC42-NC43 range.

I was at my local grocery store the other day that conveniently sells NYX and picked up some pinks. I was asked by reader Anne to do a purple/pink FOTD and believe it or not, I don't own many pinks. Everything is more on the purplish side but nothing really pink except Gleam (which is just a bunch of pink glitter, yuck!).
After swatching these when I got home, I think I picked up some "safe" pinks instead of bolder pinks. I'll try the FOTD suggestion with these but I think I want to do it also with something as pink as Passionate.
The NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipsticks are interesting. Sparkling Velvet is this very pretty sheer lavender color with gold reflects and wears like a thin gloss. Slightly textured because of the sparkle but glides on silky and sheer. Sparkling Flamingo reminds me of Expensive Pink e/s. Mid-tone pink with gold shimmer. This lipstick on the other hand is VERY textured and more opaque than Sparkling Velvet. Perhaps it's because I hardly wear lipstick, but I was kind of turned off by it's slathered on look and feel. Weird that they're from the same line but wear completely different.
And I picked up my first pair of super cheapo falsies to try out. At $0.99, why not?
I know my swatches are horrible looking. You can't see crap let alone the difference between the shades on my hand. Trust me, I tried every setting combination possible and my White Balance setting isn't manual. It's either 'Auto' or 'Flash'. I am up to the wazoos with my Sony T10. If you're looking for a camera with more options in manual settings, DO NOT get this camera! The only thing that I like about it, is the slider on the front that automatically turns the camera on when slid downward. Other than that, junk junk junk.
Anyhow, I have my makeover tomorrow mid-morning. I think I'm going to ask about shadesticks and cream color bases under eyeshadows in addition to contouring. The properties of my eyes are changing and seems to be less oily now. Which, I guess is good considering that problems with creasing are starting to be minimal.

So while gallivanting with the kids at the marketplace after lunch, I stopped into Longs to find out this wonderful sale. I picked up this gorgeous trio which I'm contemplating a nice warm FOTD from.
Now, if only MAC had sales like this. How about sales PERIOD, lol.
Anyhow, last week I had my girl in CA check out the MAC store for the Fresco Rose and Rubenesque Paint Pots since none of the MAC stores where I'm at have them. Well, they had them in stock and her package came in today! After looking at the receipt, I forgot how much more sales tax is in CA. But yay!
