The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of events, which is why the posts have been sporadic, so to get away from the chaos I took some time to do some portfolio work.
I was lucky enough to spend some time with Arianne, a co-worker of mine, who was willing to help me document some of my work for my makeup portfolio. This girl is already naturally gorgeous sans makeup and enhancing those features with a couple different looks was just tons of fun.
In this first look, I decided to play with her favorite color - green. For my tanner sisters out there that are still a bit hesitant on the thought of playing with greens, teals, and blues, this look is proof that even us brown honeys can pull off a daring color combo.
Greens compliment Arianne's skin nicely, which will explain why she loves the color so much. And with the island weather being rather good lately, keeping the colors cool just seemed suiting.
Here are the look details:

I really enjoyed both pieces although I have to say that I do love how the gold base of MAC Cash Flow paint pot peeped through the silver (MAC Electra) in the second look. Stunning in the real! Isn't she a doll?!?!
I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I have a couple more willing candidates booked to help showcase some talent so be sure to stay tuned for that!

FOTD: Girl Friendly Gone Smoky
Most looks are copped from some sort of inspiration. This piece of inspiration was courtesy of Angela who was eager to achieve the look. Deciding to take on the challenge, I did my best to recreate my own rendition of the masterpiece.
Of course, because of many facial differentials (and lighting) between the photo and I, I obviously look no where near as polished or smoky as the photo conveys nor do the colors represent themselves the same as they do on lighter skin. Nonetheless, I had fun challenging my inner artist to try and replicate it.
I did use Fafi's Girl Friendly paint pot in this, but Blackground or Painterly paint pot could have easily been substituted, as I just used it purely for a base rather than a color enhancing base. When it comes to really darkening the lashlines for smoky looks, I find that lining my eyes with pencil before placing shadow on the lid helps to give the eyes added intensity. Lining the eyes after eyeshadow is optional to even further the intensity; I opted not to line after in this look. Ok, truthfully I forgot :P
Mid-session, your motherly MAC-dicted friend here had to swing off course for Tykes control, which explains why I have slim creasing going on in the fourth photo below. Since I was unable to finish the look in a single session, my folds decided it was time to go on vacay and send the crease protectors home. Couldn't they at least babysit since they were going to have time off? Hah.
Happy Thursday everyone! Since makeup is all about inspiration, where do you get yours from?
Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

FOTD: Valentine's Day For Robots Also?
Whenever I think of an eyelid full of silver eyeshadow, I think of robots and their silver tin can appearance. Bender of Tin Man anyone?
A few weeks ago, I purchased a very loud Fuchsia-like color by NYX. In all honesty, I don't ever think I could wear Chloe on its own anywhere because:

A few weeks ago, I purchased a very loud Fuchsia-like color by NYX. In all honesty, I don't ever think I could wear Chloe on its own anywhere because:
- it's not a fashionable fuchsia but more like a theatrical fuchsia,
- it doesn't do too well with my skin tone in it's pure form, and
- its a bit too striking in it's appearance that I would truly be asking for unwanted stares and gawks.

EOTN: A Bit of the Originals At Work
Seems like Christmas was rockin' this year for everyone. I mostly got money from the family for the family, a pair of Crocs slippers (cushion, cushion, cushion!!), and MAC giftcards. Hubbo and I didn't even exchange gifts because... well, I guess we're just feeling aged and phasing out that tradition, lol. Plus, our 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up at the end of the month. If we're lucky enough to just have dinner (probably not by ourselves, lol) then that's all good with me.
Anyhow, here are some Christmas moments:

We just woke up and the other one is sleepy already, lol.

Looks like an innocent toy, right?

Here's what that innocent toy belongs to!

Later that night, we went to this one neighborhood that has the houses at the end of the cul-de-sac filled with lights and outdone in decorations. One of the houses has this tree in the front made out of Heineken bottles with lights that correspond to the rhythm of the music. Yes, they even have music playing throughout the block. Soooo cool. And not only that, they serve hot chocolate and marshmallows to the people that come by, a guestbook to log the crowd, and a lady in a green apron handing out candy canes.

They also have another tree made of Bud Light bottles.

I didn't do my makeup for Christmas (shame, shame) because we just stayed home and celebrated with Hubbo's parents. I miss the family get-togethers around the holidays, but being so far from everyone a quiet holiday isn't so bad either.
A few days ago, I did an EOTN using colors from the Originals. Parrot is very similar to Shimmermoss but a bit more on the blue side whereas Shimmermoss is more on the green side. I used 5 out of the 7 eyeshadows I got. Not bad, huh?
Anyhow, glad to hear and see that your Christmas' were eventful. Less than a week and we'll be celebrating a new year. Are you ready??
Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

FOTD: Silversmithin'... What Else Would I Be Doin'?
I feel like I've been FOTDin' like craaaazzzyyy. I've been having color-combo visions left and right and wish I could just knock them all out in one day so I don't forget.
Anyhow, I attempted to use white liner on my waterline. I thought it would contrast this combo nicely but instead it stole center stage of the entire look. Seriously, they weren't lying when they said white liner brightens up the eyes. It was too bright for what I was going for so I toned down the outer waterline by putting my Technakohl over it. Trust me, it was crazy looking. I'll have to figure out a look for that *thinks*.
Amongst other things, I tried using Bare Canvas under the cream eyeshadow instead of UDPP, more for application purposes of Metalblu. Well, the drier finish of Bare Canvas worked a little bit better for Metalblu but it still didn't slather on like the others. AND get this! As the Metalblu "dough" shifted in the pot, I saw the bottom of the pan! That's disappointing *crosses arms*.
Well, at least it's Aloha Friday tomorrow - YAY :))))

FOTD: Do the Metalblu and Earthly Riches Jingle
I think this completes my use of all the Metal-X shadows I bought. I now have to put my MESs to work. I really see myself using the cream shadows more as a color enhancer under my shadows versus a stand-alone shadow. I actually found myself having a bit of trouble with Metalblu (even with a spongetip) in comparison to the other ones. My next attempt will be to use it over a paint like Bare Canvas (because of it's drier finish) to see if that may help. I know mi hermana Stephie had probs with this one, anyone else?
Anyhow, hope your Christmas shopping is underway and that you folks are lucky to get front row parking at the malls :)
