FOTD: Pink Pearl Pigment Attends the Nordstrom's MAC Technique Class and Tips From The Pros!

I attended a Nordstrom's MAC Technique Class today in which emphasis was on evolving a simple day look and fine tuning it throughout the day to eventually end the night looking just as fun yet hot!

There were about 20-25 of us ladies in the house and we had two excellent MAC Artists facilitating our class, Yvette and Tiffany. They each had one lovely lady from the audience as a model and the looks that they had for each girl complimented them very well. The transformation as they took it from day to night was just an amazing thing to watch. Not to mention they each got a lovely pair of lashes to go along with their makeover!

Throughout the course, we got to see how the Makeup Artists put their brushes to use. It never occurred to me to use my MAC 187 to apply my moisturizer nor did it dawn on me to use my 217 to put on my eye cream. Sounds pretty obvious, right? Well, this definitely attests to the fact that the obvious isn't always, well... so obvious (at least to me, hah).

As they transitioned from skin prep, to eye makeup, to finishing off the face, they would do a "shop stop" in between each so that us attendees could grab what we wanted while the information was still fresh in our minds. Professionally, I say good sales tactic matey! Le Visa Debit says "arg".

But as the two hours of knowledge finally dwindled to an end, I was thankful to my MAC binge over the past 5 months because I had already accumulated more MAC products over time that visual lessons like these allow me to just pick up things here and there. Walking away with the MAC Mineralize Loose Powder, Fast Response Eye Cream, and Painterly Paint Pot, I felt good knowing that things were within reason - yay me!

So after an exceptional time in the hands of Nordstrom's and MAC's finest, here are some tips straight from the Pros:

• For those who aren't as comfortable with pops of color during the day, looks are well played with neutral eyeshadow choices. Preferably matter or satin finishes. But night-time is always a fun time, so don't be scared to play with some color within your comfort level.
  
• The use of a brown liner on the waterline (such as Brown Border Technakohl) emphasizes your eyes in a much softer way than using black.
• Lining the lower lashline also emphasizes more defined eyes. Lining eyes halfway (from the outer to the middle) allows eyes to appear more open.
  
• The lip difference between day and night can be as simple as giving lips some shine with some lipgloss and/or going a shade deeper from the day pouters.
  
• Know where you're placing your eyeshadow on your brush. Do not grind the brush into the pot as too much product will be deposited into the bristles. Blending brushes like the MAC 224 only need color on the tips in order to create precise placement.
  
• Make sure your paint pots and fluidline jars are tightly shut and stored upside down to prevent drying. I also always make sure to turn my jars upside down when I use them to make sure they're not exposed to air for long periods of time. I'm scared of my gorgeous colors drying out on me!
  
• If you use a brow setter, brush the gel in the direction against the hairs first then along the direction of growth to coat both sides and maximize staying power.
• When applying eyeshadow/base on the eyelids, hold the brush bristles down and deposit eyeshadow/base near the lashline sweeping up and blending out.
• If you wear sleeve-less shirts, you may want to consider buffing cheeks with a bronzer so as to match your face to your shoulder.
• When lining eyes, use the side of the brush starting from the middle and working outward. Once the guideline is established, line the inner part connecting to the initial line started in the middle (this is exactly what I do).

Wow! Is that a cheat sheet or what? No matter what level you are in your makeup application, it's always good to refresh, if not add to, the knowledge you already have. You can never OVER-saturate yourself with knowledge.

So you got the skinny on some notes I took for you folks. But you know I wouldn't leave you hanging without showing you how I showed up to class, right?

From the recent release of Heatherette for MAC, I welcomed one of my first MAC pigments to the collection, Pink Pearl. I paired this gorgeous duo chromatic pink with blue pearl pigment with Moon's Reflection and Hepcat eyeshadow along the lid. Using my HG Signed, Sealed from Matte2, I darkened the outer V slightly but made more emphasis with Carbon, placing it at the very corner to really create the depth.

The first set of photos was my trial run with the look while the last two photos are spruced up with some new NYX falsies I hauled and evidence of what I wore to class. What a difference lashes make, yah?

You can hardly tell in the photos, but I used Secret Blush Beauty Powder Blush lightly just to add minor flush.





The same look using NYX #117 lashes and only NYX Pandora on the lips, no Galaxy.

FOTD: Heatherette... Here I Come!

Heatherette for MAC is one of MAC's (many) collections that has sent people through the roof. Although I thought it was a hit or miss release, I personally wasn't as floored as I wish I was. But I did manage to walk away with the Heatherette Eyeshadow Trio 1.

In this lovely hot pink bubblegum casing encloses Hoppin' (frosty baby pink), Mood Ring (light sea green with teal specks), and Cloudburst (smoldering black with green reflects) which is what I used to combat this look for the eyes. I selected Fafi's Perky Paint Pot as my color enhancing base and highlighted with Shroom eyeshadow, a permanent MAC product. Feeling Beauty Powder Blush enhances the cheeks while the Scuplt & Shape Duo (Shadester/Lightsweep) join forces to contour and highlight. Capping off the look, I used NYX's Aphrodite Lipstick.

FOTD: A Perky Hawaiian Flower

Perky is the second to last of the Fafi paint pots I have left to try out. When I was done with this look, the colors reminded me of some of the most beautiful flowers found all around the island - tropical and breathtaking. I almost felt the urge to hop into one of my sarongs to completely authenticate the look!

We spent the evening gallivanting with some friends that were in town on vacation where we ended up stopping by the mall to eat ice cream at Farrell's, an ice cream parlor located in central O'ahu. With birthday sirens going off in the background, it was entertaining for the tykes AND the friends we had with us!

Heading to the second floor of the mall before closing, my brotherly friend Jack checks out a store "conveniently" located next door to MAC. I actually wasn't going to stop in but saw Summer, the makeup artist that is always so kind to help me. To get a compliment from a MAC makeup artist on my own makeup application is complete euphoria. So I got a dose of euphoria from Summer, but what sent me over the top was for her to say that the colors looked "fresh" when it was actually 7 hours old!

Ok ladies and gents... If I can pass one thing on to enhance the color vibrancy in your looks, it is in the MAC paint pot and a lightly moisturized brush for application. If you have a paint pot that is close to the lightest or main color you'll be expressing on your lid, then you are in for a money shot. Only have one paint pot? No need to worry, just pack your color on in small sections.

So the weekend is half started. Anyone feeling the Sunday blues already? I do, I do!! *raises hand*

FOTD: Sweet Valentine's Day Pink

Whether Cupid is stopping by your crib or not, you still have the right to look fabulous for the occasion. No one else has to know what your relationship status is on Valentine's Day or the fun-filled night you have in store, so psych the world out and liven the mood up with a simple yet sweet Valentine's Day pink do-over.

Valentine's Day is a day about love and as long as you have some love for yourself and the people you care about, the celebration will be a joyous one!

FOTD: A Re-Created Pink/Purple and Everyday Minerals

I just want to start off by saying, "pinks and purples are hot!"

This is an offshoot of my first attempt at the Pink/Purple except now I'm using a more evident pink, Sushi Flower which was also by request. I completely forgot to try out my falsies and remembered after I had already applied my mascara. I've read you're supposed to apply mascara after you put the lashes on so that it blends with the fake ones. But thanks to a combination of L'Oreal: Double Extend base, then Voluminous, finished with Telescopic, my lashes are darker than ever. Holla.

For the foundation in here, I decided to go full on Sandy Medium. Please let me know what you think :)

FOTD: Dolled Up (Reader Request)

Like I mentioned in my last post, I was asked to do a purple/pink FOTD by makeupFIX reader Anne. The NYX pinks that I bought ended up showing fairly light on my skin, but I thought I'd give it a whirl with this look anyways. After critiquing the overall look at the end, it honestly wouldn't have made a difference if I decided to omit the NYX eyeshadows I bought. I was hoping it would work, but sadly it didn't contribute much in the color department like I was expecting. I plan on doing another purple/pink FOTD but with a much bolder pink like MAC's Passionate (once I get my dinks on it).

And just for kicks, I did my hair! If you can tell, lol. I know I frump it all the time with no real reason to make it look decent but I was liking how the eyes turned out, AND I had just gotten the boys down for naps, so I decided to take the look to another step and give the strands some love even though they are in dire need of a cut!

Anyhow, the pictures don't justify how beautiful the results looked in real life. Take my word for it when I say that it was this very pretty milky, matted pink fading into rich shades of purple. An excellent look for meeting with the girls and having a bonding moment or just having a night on the town by smoking it out with a little more Carbon e/s in the outer V/crease. Either way, I think it's playful and can be worn for any occasion.

After wearing the Sparkling Velvet lipstick for a few hours, I was hopeful to think that my lips could now stand wearing lipstick and not dry out like they normally do as I haven't worn the stuff for years. Probably almost a decade!! But unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky. Nothings changed throughout the years and after a few hours of wear, my lips start to flake and peel. Is it just me, or does this happen to everyone? I'm convinced that lipstick is not my friend and that Aquaphor, Vaseline, or Lip Condition are my only hope in the lip department.

And lastly, Telescopic rocks! Bought it yesterday, used it today and LOVE IT!! I was a little skeptical about using a flexible precision brush, but wow! I used my Voluminous after for volume and I like how my lashes were truly black. I think I've found my mascara combo. After a couple of days, I'll let you know if it still holds true to the first impression.
