FOTD: Dolled Up (Reader Request)

Like I mentioned in my last post, I was asked to do a purple/pink FOTD by makeupFIX reader Anne. The NYX pinks that I bought ended up showing fairly light on my skin, but I thought I'd give it a whirl with this look anyways. After critiquing the overall look at the end, it honestly wouldn't have made a difference if I decided to omit the NYX eyeshadows I bought. I was hoping it would work, but sadly it didn't contribute much in the color department like I was expecting. I plan on doing another purple/pink FOTD but with a much bolder pink like MAC's Passionate (once I get my dinks on it).

And just for kicks, I did my hair! If you can tell, lol. I know I frump it all the time with no real reason to make it look decent but I was liking how the eyes turned out, AND I had just gotten the boys down for naps, so I decided to take the look to another step and give the strands some love even though they are in dire need of a cut!

Anyhow, the pictures don't justify how beautiful the results looked in real life. Take my word for it when I say that it was this very pretty milky, matted pink fading into rich shades of purple. An excellent look for meeting with the girls and having a bonding moment or just having a night on the town by smoking it out with a little more Carbon e/s in the outer V/crease. Either way, I think it's playful and can be worn for any occasion.

After wearing the Sparkling Velvet lipstick for a few hours, I was hopeful to think that my lips could now stand wearing lipstick and not dry out like they normally do as I haven't worn the stuff for years. Probably almost a decade!! But unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky. Nothings changed throughout the years and after a few hours of wear, my lips start to flake and peel. Is it just me, or does this happen to everyone? I'm convinced that lipstick is not my friend and that Aquaphor, Vaseline, or Lip Condition are my only hope in the lip department.

And lastly, Telescopic rocks! Bought it yesterday, used it today and LOVE IT!! I was a little skeptical about using a flexible precision brush, but wow! I used my Voluminous after for volume and I like how my lashes were truly black. I think I've found my mascara combo. After a couple of days, I'll let you know if it still holds true to the first impression.

Another New Year is underway. Do you have your resolutions ready?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

Very very pretty and I love the hair too. I really like the soft pink look, but I don't have any of those colors but I will see if I can make it work today with the odds and ends I got around here LOL. *Raises hand* about the dry flakly lips. I have tried carmex, chapstick overnight lip treatment, and blistex thing in a blue pot similar to carmex. The latter has worked the best and it has a stronger tingly feel then carmex, but alas still can not wear lippys. That doesn't stop me from buying them though :P
I was thinking I wasn't drinking enough water or not enough fats or vitamin e in my diet. I dunno it is a mystery for me too.

I absolutely love how pinks look on you!! And your hair is gorgeoooous. Mannn, I can not pull off pinks to save my life. I can only work in the Passionate/Hepcat department. Anything lighter and I look a hot mess! HA! Since I've been getting more into lipsticks, I've been noticing my lips being drier than usual too. So, no, it's not just you. I haven't spent enough time trying to figure out what to do to stop them from drying so if you find something that works let your blog sistas know.

And Shawnta....people swear by Carmex but I can't get past that ointment smell. AHHH!!!

great look! your hair is beautiful as well! sorry about the lip situation but the color is gorg.

i notice that my lips dry up after wearing l/s or l/g so i always try to wear a bit of conditioner before any of the lip stuff.. lack of water and the weather getting cooler herereally does a number.

-Shawnta: I actually used to sport carmex, the pot and the chapstick. But overall, it never really worked for me. After a few hours, I'd find myself needing to exfoliate the toughened outer layer of skin. I don't mind the tingly feeling and actually like it when products have that because I sucker into believing that it's really deep cleaning/penetrating. Is Carmex what you're using now for your current lip care?

-Divine: Thanks babe. I didn't even think you could see the pink, lol. I honestly think you can work a lighter pink, just gotta make sure you have the proper surround colors so your eyes aren't so "surprised" looking :)

-yummy411: I absolutely LOVE the lipstick color. But lipsticks and me just don't mesh well. I actually really like MAC's Lip Conditioner. Most chapsticks give me a weird stringy gunk once it mixes with the opening of my mouth which is why I can only use Aquaphor, Vasaline, or Softlips. But the Lip Conditioner is amazing and works for me. Do you ever wear l/s or l/g on its own?

-Ren: I actually used to watch that show just to see the girls get all dolled up (no title pun intended). LOL. Can't wait to see your version. I love pinks and purples now!
