FOTD: Something Orange

I was asked by MakeupFix reader Lorie, to devise a look using orange. She had bought MAC Off The Radar pigment from the Rushmetal Collection and since I didn't have that, your girl did some improvising.

MAC Off The Radar pigment is described as "warm orange with gold sparkle" and NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange, seemed to qualify as an excellent dupe.

I'll admit that I was not too impressed with the results, but I surprisingly received a lot of compliments on it so I'll let you be the judge!

Want to replicate the look on yourself? Here's how to do it!

Brushes You'll Need:

  1. MAC 252 (or 242)
  2. MAC 239
  3. MAC 222 (or 224)
  4. MAC 219
  5. MAC 208
  6. MAC 217
Eye Products You'll Need:
  1. Painterly p/p
  2. NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange (or MAC Off The Radar p/m)
  3. Clue e/s
  4. Bell-Bottom Blue p/m
  5. Shroom e/s (highlighter of your choice)
  6. Beige-ing s/s
  7. Blacktrack f/l
  8. Graphblack Technakohl
How To Get The Look:
  1. Using a firm bristle brush (MAC 252), apply Painterly p/p to lids. I chose to use Painterly p/p in this instance because I didn't feel like I needed to enhance the orange appeal.
  2. Place NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange all over lid (MAC 239).
  3. Next, take Clue e/s and blend the edges of NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Orange (MAC 222).
  4. Apply Bell-Bottom Blue p/m to the outer 3rd of the lid (MAC 239). Concentrating on the outer most portion of the lid, gradually fade it into the Orange.
  5. Add a thin layer of Clue e/s over Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 217).
  6. Deepen the outer crease with Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 219).
  7. Apply Beige-ing s/s to lower lashline. This will serve as a base for the eyeshadows.
  8. Line lower lashline with Clue e/s (MAC 219), then outer lower lashline with Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 219).
  9. Line upper lashline with Blacktrack f/l (MAC 208) and waterline with Graphblack Technakohl.
  10. Curl your lashes and add your favorite mascara!
I didn't have a chance to take pictures with lipstick on since I was headed out the door and wanted to give smootches to the tykes without the embarrassing mess. But I ended up pairing the look with NYX B52 and a bit of Bare Slimshine to keep it neutral.

Can you see yourself experimenting with orange for fun?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

I love it! Of course I wish I had my shadows with me so I could play right now, but I'll do that when I get home. Thanks for the inspiration!

You bet Lorie! I'd love to see what you come up with in using Off The Radar so please share, ok? :)

How is your week going so far?

Orange is definitely not one of my favorite colors to wear, lol. I do like the pairing with the blue! :)

I hear you Emilee. Orange is not my favorite either which is probably why I was not feeling this look at all, lol.

And you'll probably get a kick out of this, but I got the color inspiration from what I was wearing around the house! I had on gray shorts with orange lettering (University of Texas gear) and a navy blue tank. LOL.

Hope you're having a great week so far :)

I think this looks fab on you. Orange is hard to work with. I'm thinkin' you should invest in Off the Radar because it is such a beautiful orange with a wonderful color payoff.

Orange is not my favourite color to wear too!! needless to say, my Firespot eyeshadow goes untouched for months at times! lol!

that's an interesting combo you had there - blue and orange... very creative! i'd never thought of that! i always pair my orange with gold (very boring and safe i know! lol!) :D

and oh, i just have to say it again, i truely admire your chiseled face!! me wants some dimension to my flat bread face like you too! lol!!

Lol you are too cute!! I always pout and stomp my feet too whenever the boyfriend won’t let me have my way. Hahaha!! So how was the car shopping? what ride didcha get? Maybe you can get a bigger truck and just buy a canopy boot to cover the space at the back! :D

Yep you’re right! With some major brand names pulling out of our market, we’re left with so few drugstore choices!! :( I think we only have Loreal, Maybelline, ZA, Fasio, Kate and some other local / jap brands around! Sad huh!! Oh well, at least we still have MAC! Lol!!

Yeah Daycare can be really expensive, especially with TWO kids!! It’s so nice that you can be flexible with your schedule!! Me wants too! And yes, we should just champion for the 3-day weekend cause! Lol!! I’m working in the marketing department for an IT company… yeah boring ol 8-5 job for me! :P

i think a few asian countries like Japan, Korea and Singapore has their own MAC website but not for my country (not surprising since the new collections take EONS to arrive! I’m still waiting for Heatherette which will only be available in June! *faints*)! :D

That’s all for now! Take good care and have a fun week ahead! :D

Do you have Off The Radar Divine Blackness? I actually wasn't full blown into MAC at that time. Surprisingly, huh? Lol.

Hope you're having a great day so far :)

Hi crazychick,

Orange is a fun color to play with, but not my favorite either. I was really hesitant to go to work with this because it was not making me happy. But I decided to say screw it, hah.

We didn't even go car shopping, lol! We ran out of time. Hubbo was considering getting a cover for the truck but it was waaay more than what we were willing to spend. But I think we'll just trade it in and get us a mid-size SUV for now.

If we ever move to your area, I'll definitely have to ask a job referral from you for Hubbo, lol. He's actually going to be switching jobs and working for the IT department for his company soon.

I'm surprised you can hold your guns in waiting for these collections, girl! I think MAC would be hearing from me on a continuous basis, lol.

You take care also and have a great rest of the week. Hope the backup work is finally dying down for you :)

Hi spankedelic,

I'm good at buying things and using them once and never again, lol. I like to buy because it looks pretty. Not really the best justifiable factor but obviously enough at the moment, hah.

What do you think you'll pair your orange with?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks Sis Ren!

I know you'll take it to another level of fabulous, hun :)

Hmmm....I'm not sure what I'd pair orange with. Maybe a yellowish color. So predictable! Hehe...but you can't go wrong with that! Maybe a lime green?

Hey spankedelic,

Orange is a tricky one to work with. Yellow gold is definitely doable or perhaps like an emerald or forest green? I doubt I'll dig into my orange again anytime soon though, hah. Although I do feel challenged to want to make a better combination.
