Product Review: NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss

NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss $3-4
Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss gives your lips a shiny wet look with a diamond sparkle effect!
PRICE
The one thing you have to love about NYX is the smashing deal that their products are only a few Washingtons. This means you can have guilt-free impulse shopping with the products of this brand.

PACKAGING
The Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss comes in a sophisticated acrylic-type squared off tubing with a sleek, black twist-off cap. And with any twist-off cap, more specifically those that are shaped anything other than circular, there's bound to be alignment issues when closed completely shut. NYX has snap features in place with their products so no alignment issues here.

It is also equipped with a sturdy, slightly angled sponge tip wand that accompanies smooth application.

TASTE & SMELL
If the smell of plastic doesn't tickle your fancy, then you just might have to pass with this. It does have a pretty displeasing essence of plastic as the sponge tip wand touches your lips but the taste nor smell lingers. Probably not a majority favorite but if you can get over it, then you're good.

As far as taste goes, it's not going to get the best taste award either. It has the same taste of plastic as the smell entails.

PRODUCT CONSISTENCY
This smooth, non-sticky formula works better for my preference. I am not a fan of sticky lipglosses nor ones whose thickness in formula resembles that of butter, so this one plays just right.

I'm always apprehensive about products that have shimmer
in it, or in this case "sparkle", because there's always a tendency for the formula to turn a bit chunky upon initial application leading to a lip full of dryness. Surprising enough, I found this particular lipgloss to be somewhat moisturizing.

PRODUCT WEARABILITY
On it's own, the longevity of the product can hang decently for a lipgloss, but I wouldn't consider it the leader of the pack. Although it does have a beautiful sparkling glass look to it and sheer but buildable coverage, the day end result of this on my dry lips left me in definite need of an outer lip exfoliation. I do not touch-up lipgloss the second color fades away for fear of building glob on my lips, but rather touch-up once the product has clearly absorbed into my lips noted by the the semi-stickiness felt when I blot my lips together.

However, with
MAC's Lip Conditioner under it, it did MUCH better in regards to maintaining moisture and keeping the dryness at bay. With Lip Conditioner under, I can re-apply the Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss without fear of additional lip exfoliation at the end of the day.

WHAT I LIKE
- The packaging of the product. It's professional looking.
- The wet look with the sparkle.
- The price.
- Doesn't make my lips dry out with Lip Conditioner under.

WHAT I DISLIKE
- The plastic taste/smell of it.

OVERALL
I wouldn't mind having a few of these floating around in my diaper bag. The website shows that there are 15 different colors, so now the only decision is, which one will I get next? :)

YOU'LL PROBABLY LIKE THIS IF...
- you're lips aren't so darn dry like mine are.
- you like the affordability of the lipgloss.
- you dig a bit of shimmer without a sticky formula.

YOU'LL PROBABLY DISLIKE THIS IF...
- you have sensitively dry lips.
- you can't hang with the essence of plastic. It does not linger, but if you can't do it period, then this is for sure a no go.

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

How's your week going?

MrsDiaz said...

I actually went to ulta today and bought a few of those nyx lipgloss sparkles. I love their packaging. Did you see the picture of the store where Vanessa works near? That is just too crazy.

Vanessa said...

I am not much of a fan of NYX's Diamond Lipsticks (haven't tried the lipglosses) but I am thinking that those might actually be better than the lippies! Look great on you!

Oh! HAHA I was laughing at your comment about me packing "light" (note the sarcasm), the BF is just so used to me packing as if I am moving! Just in case I get stranded, gotta look cute! LOL.

And yes you and the hubby, and me and my bf shall chill on the islands one of these days!!!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

MrsDiaz Hey girl! Isn't the packaging just too cute?? I did see the NYX rack near her work! That is just crazy!!! The one near me isn't that organized or well displayed.

What do you think of the Sparkle Lipgloss so far?

Nessa I DO NOT like the Diamond Lipsticks at all! They are soo chunky, I had to immediately wipe it off.

Lol! Stranded but looking cute. I'm all about that. I mean, if you're stranded, clearly you're going to have a lot of time to kill. Why not play with makeup, hah.

You definitely have to let me know when you and Jon will be here so we can have dinner or a stroll... umm, at the mall! Lol.

The colour looks so pretty on you, saw some NYX makeup last time but didn't get to buy it.

Bliss Hiya Bliss! Thank you :) You should definitely try some out next time to see if you like them.

Hope you're having a great week so far!

i don't really like sparkle lipglosses or lipsticks with diamond sparkles but your review makes me want to grab some!! hey, what happened to your blog earlier? your blog directed me to another site "makeupfix.net" which was totally weird! must've been my computer misbeheaving!! btw, the color looks great on you!!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

mrslanielovesmac Hey Lanie! Thanks :) I can do myself a sparkle lipgloss but NOT a sparkle lipstick. The lipsticks come out chunkier and dry out my lips. But the sparkle in these lipglosses are really nice. Not huge like glitter, just nice sparkle. And it's a nice touch on it's own or as an added sass on top of lipstick.

Sorry about the glitch earlier. I didn't realize that it was prime time for you readers, hah. I actually am amidst a layout upgrade and was testing out my new domain - yay!! I actually thought that the domain would take effect immediately, but clearly that is not the case, lol. I'm trying to work out the kinks but hopefully it'll be ready soon :) Thanks for looking out though girl. Ain't no one gonna hack my site! Haha.

Omg, my oldest is turning two tomorrow! I can't believe it. Do you plan on having anymore children? Or is two good for you?

I love the slanted wand that NYX makes for all their lipglosses. Makes application so much easier!

NYX lipglosses are great for the price, and I'm glad you reviewed this because I was contemplating picking it up but was afraid it was going to be too sparkly.

you know what sis, you always have such GREAT reviews. :] just wanted to let you know that. :P hehe. you're a horrible enabler though. every time i check your blog, there's something i have to "check out" at long's drugs. LOL. and i still haven't even GONE to get the B52 lipstick!!! geebus! hahaha. :P

MakeupByRenRen said...

ohhh pretty, i definitely see the diamond look on your lips...not too glossy more like glimmery...i likey!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Emilee Hey girl!! I like the slanted tip also. It helps when it comes to dabbing the color on the corners.

The lipglosses are a nice touch of sparkle. Not glittery at all, just nice shimmer. You should definitely grab yourself a couple. They would make great purse buddies :)

Chris Thank you love! That is such a great compliment :)

I would say you're a pretty horrible enabler yourself getting me into the natural side of things! Hah. I have no idea what I'm going to do with all these samples!! But it does feel great knowing that I'm doing something good for my skin - at least partly, hah.

Ren This line is really pretty. But in real life, it looks even better! Definitely have to get your mitts on these. I know I'll be picking up a few more.

Wonderful review! I also hate things that have tastes to them, especially plastic!

I really like the angled brush though. The Lancome glosses I have come with the angled brush and I find that it's easier to apply.

Love the color on you too - very subtle and fun for every day :)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Nilla Cookie Hey girl! Thank you.

Yah, I'm not really digging the plastic aroma but it doesn't really bother me much. Plus it doesn't linger at all and is more like an initial just-pulled-the-wand-out-of-the-tube sort of smell.

When I do an upgrade in glosses, I am definitely going to check out Lancome. I already know I'll get suckered in through the packaging. I love the squared off type tubes.

So did you and bf win the "friendly wager?"

nilla cookie said...

The packaging for the Lancome glosses ARE really gorgeous, with the little rose symbol on the wand.

The plastic smell might just mean that it's new, no?

And yes, the BF and I won our friendly little wager ;) What a glorious day it was!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

That is exactly what it is. It definitely is a new plastic smell. But could be a turn off to those who can't hang until the scent wears off.

Good for you girl! We almost won the the wagers for each quarter but didn't. In the end we broke even. I say, at least we didn't lose, hah.

MsLanie said...

oh thank goodness!! i thought someone hacked your blog!!! now, i'm relieved! don't do that anymore!! j/k :)

we're planning to have two more children before i turn 30 so we can travel freely but not any time soon. we (well, I) just want four kids and that's it! too much tuitions!
happy early b-day to your second one.

nilla cookie said...

Definitely breaking even is better than losing! I'm glad that the BF and I won a couple of hundred... what should I buy next?? ;)

m said...

Wow, thank you for all the NYX reviews! I'm trying my best to not spend any more money on cosmetics... it's so hard not to with all your great NYX reviews! You should be a lip model, because your lips are perfection!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

mrslanielovesmac Lol. You're such a crackup girl!! I promise I won't do it again without further warning.

Thank you for the birthday greeting for the Big Boy. Hubbo and I are thinking about 4 also but we'll have to see. I don't think I can pop them all out by 30 unless I keep up with having them every couple years like these two. Not to mention my blog might go on hiatus. But we're aiming for the girl. If we get that next time, then we might stop. So since you have one, you have to tell me your secret!! Lol.

Btw, now I'm trying out a lilac look (well might be more purple now) thanks to your post! Quite inspirational that it got me in the bathroom fiddling through my stash.

Happy Wednesday girl.

Nilla Cookie Lucky you!! I hear either a Chanel or Lancome lipgloss jingle coming on... Hah.

How's the Hump Day so far?

May Hi May! Thank you for the lovely compliments. But trust me girl. They only look like that at an angle, lol. Straight on, they are crooked looking. That's why you won't see my lips taking from a straight view ;)

Well, here's the good thing about NYX. They are affordable compared to buying something at MAC or any department counter. The quality is also very decent for their price. And depending on how you look at it, you can consider it a plus that if you do buy something cosmetic, at least it was for more product instead of one product for the same amount :) Ok, but that's probably not good of me to entice you more, lol. Sorry girl. I'm not good at intervening makeup purchases. I'll push you to get them!

Happy Hump Day to ya!
