FOTD: Naughty Nautical Pigments Gone Smudge

Ever have those days when you put your makeup on and it feels like you've just smudged colors all over the place? That's kind of how I felt about this one. I did use MAC Blacktrack f/l as a color base which will help to explain the overall smudging effect, but honestly the colors didn't perform like I was hoping they would over it. Guess I'll have to trial my thoughts again :)

Here's how to replicate it though if you are feeling it:

Brushes You'll Need:

  1. MAC 242 (or 242)
  2. MAC 239
  3. MAC 222 (or 224)
  4. MAC 219
  5. MAC 208
Eye Products You'll Need:
  1. Blacktrack f/l
  2. Mutiny p/m
  3. Bell-Bottom Blue p/m
  4. Lovely Lily p/m
  5. Memorabilia e/s
  6. Carbon e/s
  7. Graphblack Technakohl
  8. Shroom e/s (or highlighter of your choice)
  9. Beige-ing s/s
How To Get The Look:
  1. Place Blacktrack f/l on the lid only (MAC 242).
  2. Smooth Mutiny p/m all over Blacktrack f/l (MAC 239).
  3. Grab Lovely Lily p/m and blend into the crease (MAC 222) blending out the edges of the Blacktrack f/l and Mutiny p/m.
  4. Pick up Bell-Bottom Blue p/m (MAC 239) and apply to the other lid and blend into the outer crease (MAC 222).
  5. Using a pencil brush (MAC 219) put a tad of Carbon e/s to the outer crease and blend outward to darken.
  6. Highlight the brow bone with Shroom e/s (MAC 239).
  7. Line upper lashline using Blacktrack f/l (MAC 208) and waterline with Graphblack Technakohl.
  8. Apply Beige-ing to lower lashline; will act as a base for eyeshadow.
  9. Using a pencil brush again (MAC 219), run Memorabilia e/s over lower lashline.
  10. Curl your lashes and add your favorite mascara!
Anyone else enjoying their new pigments? What have you paired your pigments with?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

i think the look came out good, but i feel you on that. i've been feeling like that lately... which is why i haven't really been doing FOTD's lately. :P but honestly, i think this look is good sis!

MakeupByRenRen said...

u know...i tried my mutiny pigment last night and it kinda came out just like yours...almost felt like it was smudged together...but i kind of like that look lol

I think this was blended beautifully. It doesn't look too all over the place, just organized, purposefully chaotic. I've paired Mutiny with Satin Taupe e/s and Lark About Pigment. I really want to see an orange look on you.

I just tried my first pigment the other day and I'm in love! I posted a look with Golden Olive. I've been so scared before and I'm glad I gave it a try, finally.

Oh my God! You are so beautyful!
perfect colors for your face!
Have you heard of Sephora's Kat von D collection? i think I'm gonna die because I can't get it here. :( I want the palette so bad. Is it anything you are going to buy from that collection?
How is everything btw? :)
Take care :D

Wow, the blacktrack really toned down the color. I think it looks beautiful.
I wore mutiny with woodwinked earlier this week as a day look. I tried to tone it down so I could go to the gym. That stuff would not come off. I ended up having to wash my entire face!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks spankedelic :) How are you doing, btw? Hope all is well! Happy Thursday.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

You're so sweet Sis Chris. I felt like I punched myself when I was blending this look together, lol. I glared at myself in the mirror and made the "I don't like" scrunchy face :D

Hope you're having a great day so far love!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I love that you're so well-rounded with all the looks Ren! But isn't Mutiny such a pretty color?! Definitely in the Parrot, Shimmermoss family. Don't cha think?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Lorie.

I LOVE how you describe it as purposefully chaotic! Excellent choice of words, hun.

And in the back of my mind, I'm still thinking about Lark About pigment from my swatch. And how you paired it together with Mutiny, I can already picture the beauty behind it!

Once Hubbo can fix my laptop (again!), I'll be putting up my orange look for you. I personally wasn't feeling it on me, but let me tell you girl that everyone else was! My co-workers could not stop raving about it so I hope it gives you an idea on how to use your Off The Radar :)

Hope you're having an action-packed Thursday! Any plans for the upcoming weekend?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Good for you Beauty Talk! Pigments are a scary thing at first especially since so much color comes out of the smallest tap. But Golden Olive is a fabulous color. I need to get my mitts on that soon.

I actually have a couple of eyeshadows that are broken and are in loose form. And can I say that I'm sort of glad they broke :P Lol.

Hope all is well blog sista!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Rouaa,

You are too kind sweetie :) *blush*

I actually did see the Kat Von D Collection (not in person but online). There are a lot of workable colors in there, girl. I probably won't get anything from that collection because I fear change, lol. I need to get out of my MAC snobbyness sometime ;)

Everything is good though, thanks for asking. I've just been so tired lately coming home from work that it leaves watching the kids during the day and then going to work after Hubbo comes home from work. But I'm still here :)

How are you doing there in your lovely town? I bet the sun is making its way out more, huh?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Melissa,

Blacktrack really does tone it down. I actually was hoping for Mutiny to be a bit brighter against the black, but that just didn't happen.

OMG, girl, lol! Mutiny wanted to lift those weights with you, hah.

Hope you're having a great week so far! Btw, is your hair color normally the same as your sister's hair color? (I'm recalling from your post of you doing her makeup).

Melissa @ No. 2 Pencil said...

Hi Mrs. Lynne,

My sister darkens her hair (alot), and has for a long time. She is naturally light brown. I love the dark hair on her.

My hair is naturally medium blonde, (white blonde as a child), and I have light blonde highlights. Alot of peeps say we don't look alike, but we sound just alike!

Do you have sister(s)?

Oh yeah - my sister is 5'2 and I'm 5'7...but we have to same shoe size (yay)!

Jenn said...

girl you haven't seen smudgy yet! lol!! i always make a big mess on my lids whenever i use pigments or chunky eyeshadows! the bits just fly everywhere and lands exactly where it doesn’t belong! lol!! yours is still beautiful and rather defined! i'm lovin your lip colors too! :D

Oh, I’ve only had falsies on twice before – once during a photoshoot (the MA’s) and the other one I used a cheapo generic one which I absolutely HATED because the glue was so goopy!! YUCK! Lol!! I’m getting myself the stick on ones the next time! Did you use the glue on one or the stick on one?

Btw, I love how you list down the steps plus the stuff needed to achieve this look!! Definitely useful for makeup dummies like me! Lol!!

Whats rocking your weekend this week? :D

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Melissa,

Boy, talk about recessive genes, huh? Hah. I can see a similarity between you two but off the bat I wouldn't think you two were sisters. But I love that you each are so unique. Have you ever dyed your hair dark before? What is the age difference between you two?

I actually have two sisters. I'm the youngest and we are actually 13- and 16-years apart. I look like my middle sister but have the same body mechanics as my older sister. Interesting how DNA puts us all together, lol. Like my oldest son looks exactly like me and my youngest son like my husband. Yet you can tell they look alike. But then it wasn't always flattering when (pre-tykes) people used to ask if Hubbo and I were brother and sister :X Lol.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey crazychick,

Honestly when I was applying Lovely Lily into the crease on this one, I was telling myself "what the hell are you doing? You're just making it worse!" LOL! Because you couldn't make out the purple or the teal in Mutiny which is what I still wanted to see.

I'm a nutcase when it come to falsies, girl. I don't know if I'm tilting my head wrong or what but I can't see where I'm going when I'm trying to put them on myself. And I always end up gluing them to my lashes instead of the end of the lid, lol. But I can't wear them out in public. I feel weird and it makes my eyes red really fast. Oh, and I use the glue ones. I think that's why my eyes get irritated is because of the glue.

Thanks for the feedback on the tutorial steps :) I'm going to incorporate that now since I don't have time or the manpower to take step-by-step tutorial photos like I want to. Who do I need to talk to about making it 3-day weekends from now on?!? ;) Hah.

Mmmm, let's see. We're probably going to go car shopping. Although I love le truck, it's getting a little too expensive and we need covered trunk space. I might have to suck in my pride and just get a van but.. I DUN WANNA *stomps feet* Lol.

i'm doing well! i finished my finals and am recovering from being sick! i was in the hospital a lot the past two weeks, cause my fiance's aunt got reallllly ill. her liver/kidney were failing, so we came to the hospital to make her feel better. then her baby got sick and i was asked to stay with him at the children's hospital. there were a lot of sick kids and i think i got sick from them. i got an upper respiratory infection, ear infection, and am getting over allergies. then i got a severe allergic reaction to my ear drops and couldn't breathe and threw up! i'm doing better, though! how have you been?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

So sorry to hear about the chaotic two weeks spankedelic. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better though after the sicknesses decided to stop beating you up. I bet it seemed like it was never going to end. I hope that aunty and baby are alright also.

And congrats on finals! That's a huge accomplishment.

I've been good actually. Tired mostly, but good. Big Tyke is getting so much better at eating his food because for awhile we were thinking he signed up for starvation, lol.

Kind of off topic, but have you and beau set a date for your big day yet?

Mutiny is an interesting pigment; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I'm more fond of Bell-bottom Blue, although it reminds me a bit of Naval Blue pigment. I used it as a liner recently, which adds a nice little kick without looking too 80s, hehe.

I don't think this looks bad at all! A lot more muted than I'm used to seeing for Mutiny, but I think pretty nonetheless, not to mention your lashes are to die for!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I like Bell-Bottom Blue too Emilee. It also reminds me of Deep Truth e/s.

How are you enjoying your NN haulage so far?

we haven't yet set a wedding date! we've been together 5 years and still no date. we've been engaged for almost 2 years now. we talk about it but then we go through periods where we STOP talking about it. i want to get married. actually, we both do but it's so hard when i have school going on. i start back up soon and i know once i get accepted into the respiratory program or nursing, i won't have time to get married. i really want to get married when i want to and not when i have a break from school. i don't want to go by my school schedule because i'll only probably get christmas off and spring break. i've always wanted a fall wedding cause the weather is so nice and breezy in texas! i don't want to just plan my wedding around my college schedule, so i think we'll wait till after i'm done! we might do it sooner, but i'm still not sure. hehe. as for my illness, i'm feeling a lot better! i haven't had any more allergic reactions and my ear is feeling A LOT better! my allergies have gone away, too.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey spankedelic,

Fall weddings are beautiful. And I totally hear you on not wanting to revolve the date around school. It's your day, you should have the liberty to plan it when you want it, not just because you have that date free. Hubbo and I did a simple "let's make it official" ceremony, hah. One day we'll have our fancy wedding but things just moved to fast for us that that's just how it played out. But it was still special :)

I'm glad you're feeling a lot better. It's hard to do anything when you're not in tip top shape.

Do you and the beau have any plans this weekend? Is he still going to school to? Or only you?

My fiance took some college courses and wants to take some more but he works at a chemical plant out here, so he might have to do online classes since he works days/nights. I don't think he'd be able to go to college with his crazy work schedule so he might have to do it online. He wants to take some chemistry classes so he can get a higher position at work =) So I think he will work on that. He makes good money, but just wants to further his education and perhaps get promoted at work. as for the weekend, we just got back from visiting my sister =) we just went out of town and went to a nice dinner and did a little shopping. i saw mac and sephora but had to walk past the store! lol. i made myself.

Hey spankedelic,

That is really good that your fiance is doing that. Hubbo will be going back to school this Fall but we'll find out next week what will happen in regards to how he'll collaborate the school and work schedule. He works a normal day job and with some classes only being available during the day without evening or online options, it's going to be quite interesting where this starting semester will take us.

And hail to you sister! I'm so proud of you to walk right past the gates of temptation. I can do it, but it sure doesn't sit well with me. I try not to glance inside either as I walk by but then I feel like I'm betraying them or something, lol!

So when the plans for your big day enter the picture, do you know where you'd like to have it? Will you have it around your area or do you want to get married somewhere else?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi LeAnne!

So what did you think of the Neo-Sci Fi Collection? Did you haul anything?
