MAC Product Releases: Dazzleglass Swatches

MAC Dazzleglass... yet another product release born premature this year. But in the sense of beauty products, premature releases aren't necessarily a bad thing.

So I got the word that Dazzleglass was setting foot in MAC stores today and collected the color information on a piece of paper, so that I could keep track of my swatching, as I headed out the door... tykes in full effect.

Go swatching mama,... GO!

I head to the nearest mall, packing my double stroller accordingly making sure gizmos and gadgets are in their proper positions so that at a moment's notice, I can pull the distractions out if need be. As I approached the MAC store, I was presently surprised that the store was empty! Not a MA in sight... well, until their heads peered out from behind the black counters as they inventoried the rest of the Dazzleglasses.

As I started swatching the first couple of products, I was just in delight seeing my hand slowly twinkle like crazy from the pearl reflects. I continued to swatch and I slowly got that "I want them ALL" feeling. Oh, MAC! You sure know how to make a girl yearn.

My thoughts on MAC Dazzleglass? These dazzling tubes of lip candy are definitely going to be claiming some homes within the next couple of weeks. With 16 sizzling colors to choose from, everyone from non-lip addicts to full-blown lip addicts can find something suiting.

The glosses apply sheer but with a pretty nice color payoff and the "dazzle" effect is very tasteful.

The ladies are packaged in a tube of sturdy plastic easy to mistake for glass. Although the packaging does lack the weight of glass, the quality of a crystal clear container illuminates the gems that lie within. The tube also contains more product next to most of the MAC lip products available.

For those that take a strong liking to brush tip applicators, you'll be "dazzled" to know this is a standard feature for the product.

I can see myself possibly getting more from this line, but for the time being I only picked up Money, Honey and Spanking Rich. From the swatches, these two really fed my comfort zone. Although I should have just chosen one or the other, as you'll soon see they are pretty similar.

Money, Honey is more rosy in color and plays up the natural rose shade my lips are.
This reminds me of my NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss in Rose Sparkle only with a high def glass appeal (read = sexy!).

Spanking Rich on the other hand, has more of a berry tone to it.

So let's get down and discuss the sticky factor.

The consistency of the MAC Dazzleglass is pretty thick compared to your average gloss. This means that when you use the brush applicator to apply the product to your lips, you'll most likely be dipping into the tube a few times to achieve an all even "dazzling" lip. Multiple dipping + air = bacteria... but hey, who's paying attention? *halo*

The glitter used is not chunky or gritty at all. If you're ultra sensitive, you might be able to feel it when it dries but I didn't notice much.

MAC describes the Dazzleglass as "non-sticky, non-tacky, lightweight and moisturizing". Lightweight and moisturizing, yes. Non-sticky and non-tacky? I think this will create major discussion. I think the consistency and feel of the Dazzleglass is comparable to honey. When applying the Dazzleglass in a single swipe, it does seem to create some stickiness due to it's unique thickness.

So the remedy? Either pair it with MAC Lip Conditioner under or build up the layers on Dazzleglass. Either solution will allow your lips to move more freely (unless sticky friction is your forte).

How does it fair on desert lips? The reason I am NOT a fan of sticky or tacky formulas is because it promotes dryness on my lips. When the friction kicks in, the skin on my lips shift outrageously with each smack. So needless to say, I have not met a sticky formula that my lips have approved of, until now. I did notice though that even though the texture did eventually mimic scotch tape, my lips still refrained from tearing into pieces. And that was in applying Dazzleglass to bare lips AND touching it up! Girls of the dry demons... you know adding product to lips who have already evaporated to a sticky state is beauty suicide. But either my lips are getting better, or this is some pretty good stuff.

All in all, I can tolerate a little stickiness once in awhile. I'm not real fond of the mess it makes when taking it off with a tissue (note to self: use napkins instead!), but I'm willing to take one for the team for a little "dazzling glass" action :)

Should you get it? Based on the elegant dazzling effect, totally yes! But if you can't hang with the tolerance in consistency, then pass these up and get yourself an ice cream. At least you can kiss the scoop then lick your lips dry after, hah.

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

They look great ... on hands and your lips but I'm not feeling this collection at all!

I hate wearing my Shush tendertone cos of the glitter so these are out of the picture!

The packaging looks sleek though LOL

Can't wait for Naughty Nauticals. even though I've read two reviews and they're not exactly .. glowing reviews!

Great review, Auntie!

The look absolutely beautiful on you. I'm not a super fan of glitter, so I'm wonderin' about this collection. But they don't look like a disco ball on your lips. Either way, I have to check it out b/c that's what all MAC obsessed folx do; check out or buy items from a collection that they aren't in love with.

Tell me this though...what's the staying power like? Does this gloss stay on longer than your typical glossy? Or less or more?

wow....money honey looks gorgeous on you! i too have dry lip syndrome but i can sacrifice for this baby...do you know if they're part of the perm line?

hey mrs lynne its been such a long time i havent commented... your review on this product is just great! but i dont think i will be picking up this line, i love gloss like the next girl but im not into the sparkly aspect of these. so i guess i can save my money for MAY!!! next week cant wait

aww can't see the pics yet, but congrats! the race for swatches with kids is like running a marathon! way to go mama lynne! hi five to our second sport ;)

Hi Julie,

I'm not obsessed with glitter much either, but I don't mind sparkle on my lips.

I haven't tried a Tendertone yet, but will when they release at the end of next month.

That's a bummer that the N.N. aren't getting better reviews. In a way that makes me happy though because I can save money, lol!

Have a great weekend girl :)

Hi Divine Blackness,

I guess some might think they are too disco ballish, but I personally like the dazzle. It's not chunky glitter which is great because it's even spread throughout the lips.

Staying power is pretty decent I think especially because the formula is thicker so it really sits there. I mean, you'll have product transfer no matter what is on your lips, but I ran my day, had lunch, then took a nap and the product absorbed but was still was there. Not as great looking as when I put it on, but it was there keeping my lips moisturized.

The glass is pretty sheer though, but nicely pigmented. I say check it out sister. I'm sure you'll find one that you can have fun with, hah.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks for the tag LeAnne. I actually already did this tag, but I'll think of 6 other things to share :)

Have a great weekend hun!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Ren,

The are only LE girl. They should be permanent though because they are really pretty. I think I've just had a bad experience with glitter before because it would look like junk after, but this really has made me reconsider the whole tacky texture. At least tolerable, hah.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

That is wise Xuanie! And with May having releases coming out the wazoo, you gotta pinch where you can.

What do you have your eyes on so far? Naughty Nauticals, right?

Second sport indeed yummy411! Let's hope that someone doesn't call Social Services for trying to make this a full-hearted profession, lol :)

Hi, you hot swatchin' mama, you! ;)

I looked at the Dazzleglasses today, and I think they're ok! I'm not totally wowed, but I can see this working for most folks, including a few who didn't think it would work for them! I tried on Date Night (liked), Rags to Riches (good, reminded me of Sugar Trance which I have and love) and Comet Blue. I so wanted to like Comet Blue! If it had been the same sparkle in a pink base I would have been all over it, but the blue gloss base just pushed in into the realm of too much! It's not impossible that I'll cave on it in the future, just because it's so unique and I love having that stuff in my makeup wardrobe, but, for the moment, I'm passing!

Of course, I also recently acquired Chanel Astral and Equinoxe, so my glitter craving is pretty well sated!

Weather here is supposed to be fab for the weekend (especially good since Impus Major is having his birthday party outside). Hope yours is equally excellent, and I hope you have something fun planned to do in it! :)

Great review!

I'm kinda secretly drooling over the "dazzle" in these lippies even though I've never been too into the sparklies. Def great for the va va voom factor - I gotta check these out! :)

seriously, the Money, Hone is great on you.
BTW, I like your new feature photo. it's cute.

hi my name is Imee and I'm a sparkle-holic. I must have these! thanks for this post... i love the look of discoballs on my lips, i don't know why, i just love dazzle. =) "Money,Honey" and "Love Alert" are on my list.

btw, not much new with me, just tryna stay away from hauling, hehehe

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Glosslizard,

I'm glad you got to check out those dazzlers. The MA and I were swatching the ladies and she paired the Comet Blue with a plum lip liner under and it turned out REALLY pretty! What about Ms. Fizz? It has blue sparkle against a pink base... did you have another shade of pink in mind?

And Happy Birthday to Mr. Impy :) How old will he be now? That's also nice to know y'all will have some good weather. San Leandro, right? Well, I guess we're always getting "better" weather inland than the poor SF folks, hah. Does he have a theme this year?

I'm working all weekend, thank goodness only closing shift though (it's slower! yee!!), but I'm in the process of trying to update the kids' picture site. My father-in-law will be going to the Philippines in a couple of weeks, and I want to get the photos dated so that I can print some for him to take home to the family. I'm sooo behind! I left off on pictures from 1/28/08 and it's now almost May!! Yikes. Another attempt at staying caught up underway. *twiddles thumbs* So that's pretty much my weekend, lol.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks nilla cookie :)

I like dazzle so I'm definitely liking the effect that these have. And it's perfect for those matted and satin eyeshadows so the concentration is on the puckers!

I can definitely see you working the gems for a little va va voom factor of your own ;)

Can't wait to hear how you like em when you get the chance.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi imee, my name is Mrs. Lynne and we'll get through this together ;)

Seriously girl, you will absolutely adore these! The dazzle is so gorgeous and not cheap looking like some of those other glosses. And especially when you get the pouters covered, the lips almost look plumper because there is so much dimension in the look.

And I like your hauling awareness, hah. I definitely need to stay away from the hauling, but with nearly like 5 releases coming out in May (damn it!!!), I'm going to be in so much trouble. But I'm going to challenge myself to really be particular in my purchases. I NEED TO, lol.

Have a great weekend hun!

My MAC store was already sold out of 3 or 4 colors, I think Ms. Fizz might have been gone! I'll keep an eye out 'cause I've been eyeballing it on a couple of sites now.....

Impus Major will be 7!!! We're having a nice big BBQ for his party, lots of fun! We're actually right next to Berkeley, a little north of San Leandro! No theme, he says anything Star Wars or Pirates is good! :)

Oh, I am so behind on the kid picture front! The picture in my wallet is still from when the kids were 1 and 4 (that's the last time we had a professional shot taken of both of them together)! I know how much work it takes to keep up with all that! Good luck! ;)

Anonymous said...

I really like these! They look great on you! I went out today and got Baby Sparks & Glamour OD. I love them!

Anonymous said...

Whoa-weee, I think I am going to get some of the Dazzleglass. I totally was going to bypass this collection. I have been converted. Thanks.

Jenn said...

hey girl, both Dazzleglasses look great on your lips! i can't wait to check them out in person as i'm still on the fence on whether i should get them or not! :D

thanks for the swatches!! they're indeed really useful for girls like me who NEEDS to make informed decisions (never let me wander near the MAC store without "planning" to get anything… I might just bring back the whole store!! Bad bad impulsive shopper here! Lol!!)! I’m dying to know how Comet Blue will turn out my lips! I’m a sucker for anything unconventional! Lol! :D

i think ZA is drugstore, so I guess yeah, this brand’s something you can find in the grocery store! Do give Cutie Curl Volume a try! It’s really cheap and good! Anddddddd, I’m dying to try out Lash Blast myself! Too bad covergirl pulled out from the south east asian market some time ago :(

No, I’ve never been to the states before (almost did two years ago, but the plan didn’t materialize)… and I’m praying that that day doesn’t come until I’ve saved up enough to go crazy at the malls over there! You girls who live in the US of A are soooo lucky – you girls have everything!! :D

Glad to hear that you’re fine and dandy already! :D how was your weekend?

Lynne, are any of these a nice coral color? I need a coral lipgloss.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Mama Glosslizard,

How are you with tackier texture in lipglosses? Yay or nay?

Whoa! Seven already? Where has the time gone?! A friend of mine just had her son's birthday party and it was Star Wars themed. A friend of hers had a Darth Vader costume so "Darth" showed up to the party ;) And from the pictures, it was no cheesy costume either! Must be the one that camps out in front of the movie theatres on the premiers, hah.

LOL! At least you have wallets of them with you! I don't even have that :? I have pictures on my phone or I just have them with me period, hah.

As for now, I've got one month down, now two more months worth of pictures to go.... *sigh*

How is your week going so far? Any new projects at hand?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Good for you giles22-atl! I really like them all. Glamour OD is definitely on my list of lemmings (as are the rest).

How are you doing hun? What's new with you?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi there Apple Diva!

The Dazzleglasses really are a pretty bunch. I grow fonder of them everyday, hah.

Which ones do you think you'll be getting?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi there crazychick!

I love being unconventional also. I'm just a rebel at heart, hah.

The MA at the store was swatching Comet Blue and put a plum liner under it and it came out gorgeous! And I like that you can build up the gloss to really reveal the color that it is, or use it sparingly and it just tints whatever you have under, if any.

Very interesting fact on CG. Were they not getting much business from y'all?

Oh girl. I can imagine you going berserk in the states. No need to even stay at a hotel! You should just sleep right outside the mall, lol. When you do visit, do you know where you'd like to go?

My weekend was full of fun 'ol work. I'm finally off tomorrow which is fan-flipping-tastic! I hope to be productive so let's see how that rides out.

How about you? Any other exotic travels in the works for you and the beau?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Kristen Elisabeth!

You might want to check out Spanking Rich and Glamour O.D. I think those two could possibly be more of coral influence.

Are you excited for any of the new releases coming out in May?

Anonymous said...

I'm doing well. Now I really am wanting Ms. Fizz & Comet Blue, haha. Rags to Riches looks good too!

Anonymous said...

Hi!

I don't really mind tackier lipgloss textures as long as (a) they're moisturizing and (b) it's not windy! Ha! Lipglasses are good for me as long as it's a calm day!

OMG, Brendan would have had a little cow! He loves Darth Vader... that and skeleton pirates are probably his favorite things! :)

Well, see, my phone doesn't have pictures, so we're even!

You, go, girl! That's some fine picture-wrangling! I hate doing that, so any progress sounds impressive to me!

Mostly this week I'm just basking in the fact that all the big events are over for a while! My only projects at the moment are 1) whipping up fettucini alfredo for the dojo potluck tonight, 2) getting the imps' hair cut (!) and 3) popping over to MAC tomorrow to check out the new stuff!

Cheers and good weather to you! :D

(g)ezebel said...

oh man. i only got three, but after seeing your swatches, i want more!!!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi giles22-atl,

Seriously, I'd buy this whole collection in a heartbeat if I could. But I think I can only own so many tacky lipglosses :/

Did you score any of these yet since you last commented?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I totally agree Glosslizard. There was a breeze the other day and it blew my hair right onto my lips and I couldn't move my hair because we were crossing the street and it just bugged the crap out of me.

Hah, is Brendan watching the series on tv? I know they're airing all the episodes. Hubbo has been having a Star Wars fest with himself outside of CSI Miami, lol.

Oh, and I caught up on all 3 MONTHS worth of pictures! *high five* Although it was a little daunting to complete the task, I did have a fun time going through the photos and seeing the moments I forgot I captured, hah.

Speaking of fettucini alfredo, I made that the other day! Added some chicken and mushrooms - yum! And I cut Big Tyke's hair a couple of weeks ago. He had his first buzz (I normally use a razor) and he did so well. I thought he'd freak because of the sound but he didn't!

Hope all is well there girl. Tell the bay I said hi :D
