FOTD: The No-Brainer Purple Smokey When Time Is Of The Essence

When in doubt and time is of the essence, one can always get away with a purple smokey eye. Purple is one of those versatile colors that really compliments all skin tones. And if you're like me, you're addicted to adding MAC Signed, Sealed e/s to the corners of any look for a bit of dimension.

MAC Nice Vice paint pot with a bit of Hepcat e/s put on top produces a nice plum color that can swing any way, warm or cool. I love using Neutral Pink e/s (N Collection - LE) as a blender color in the crease because against warmer skin tones, it amplifies a neutral transition from lid to highlight while maintaining and capturing the warm undertones that our skin naturally has to create a subtle yet defining outline. And with my trusty Signed, Sealed e/s ready to go, I finish off the eye with some love in the V. With a dust of True Romantic Beauty Powder Blush on the cheeks and some NYX Aphrodite on the lips, your MakeupFix mama is ready!

Do you have a no-brainer combo ready for those days when you're dashing out the front door yet don't want anyone to know? Share with us!

Mrs. Lynne

Purples look so lovely on you! i won't be surprised if it was your mad dash color! your blending is still amazing despite all the rushing! :D

My 5 minute makeup do? definitely blues like Moonflower or Parrot or Browns like Satin Taupe in the crease, Magic Dust as a wash, plus a peachy blusher (my sure-fire blush is Loreal Blush Delice in True Rose... works every time with every color! :D) on both cheeks! Of course, i can't leave the house without a layer of the loreal translucide loose powder on my face and defining my brows (i'm anal about them! :P). I'd complete the look with the Earthline Technakohl on my waterlines and i'm ready to rush out of the door! yep, no mascaras, liquid liners (a noob like me will end up poking myself in the eye lol!!) or anything on my lips.

how long did you take to complete this look? :D

I’m currently using the ZA Cutie Curl Volume mascara! It’s a child brand of Shiseido, so its cheap and it works beautifully!! I’m keen to try out telescopic and Zoomlash / Plush lash next! :D

The MAC Cleanse Off Oil is GREAAAAAAT! I just massage some over my face (oooohh this feels oh so good! :D) and eyes for a while then rinse off to a baby smooth, clean face! :D And yes, it smells DIVINE!! I’ll be switching to this fulltime once my Lancome cleanser runs out! :D have you tried the Cleanse-off oil? :D

oh, the boyfriend and i manage to have a mini getaway to Bali last week! it's only been a week since i was back at work, and i'm itching to go for another getaway already! ok, ok, i'm lazy, so sue me! lol!!

hope you're feeling better already girl!! how's the backache? :)

I absolutely love how purples look on you. I am still kickin' myself for not coppin' that Nice Vice. It is truly a jem!

k i need to get signed, sealed. it's not a limited edition shadow is it??

You manage to look sophisticated and sultry at the same time! Purples look awesome on you...I have a hard time getting purples to look right on me.

Whenever time is of the essence and I need to do a quick smoky eye...I always lean towards brown. Usually twinks, mulch, or smut then darken the crease and outer v with black tied or a light touch of carbon.

I also got myself some of those fabulous NYX lashes you posted. They are devine! My husband loves falsies on me.

I miss you too sis! Purple always looks great! And I feel you on having to chase after more things (the bunny and the tykes), aiya!

Wow, that color is gorgeous!! The purple looks so fantastic on you.

hola, pretty mama! love love this look and you did it in how many minutes??? all i have to say is wow! haha, if i don't have time then it's no make up for me. I know a no-no! LOL! you look beautiful as always.

and I've been around, I read your blog whenever you update, just haven't had a chance to really comment.

I'm telling you sis, WoW has got me sooo addicted. I played last night for 3 hours just to get a Succubus, don't ask. LOL.

And I've been meaning to reply back and send you another long email, hehe, but since my emails have already downloaded to my computer at home, I don't have it here at work to look back on.

I hope you're having a good week so far, love.. we're halfway through.

Purple is a vastly under-rated smokey-eye color, as are gunmetal grey and golden-olive.

PS: You look flawless!

Anonymous said...

What a splendid, purple eye! Looks really fantastic, and of course I love Nice Vice!

You so blow me away, that's a rush job and your eyeliner is absolutely perfect! You have some serious skills! :)

Mukho said...

I loves me some smokey purple too :) I does me a mean deep regard with Revlon colorstay in "berry bloom". Your blend job is superb, and u r spot on as usual with ur analysis of pink as a crease color... never occurred to me that i could use a non-dark color for the crease!

Okay, my ULTIMATE lazy combo is from my Laura Mercier Petite Palette in Nightfall.

Only b/c I'm lazy, I don't even bother with the navy shade in it. I do MAC Beige-ing as a base, the middle color (Topaz) all over, and Pearl for a highlight.

This has been my go-to combo for a few days now, you'd think that I'd throw in a little different color now and then. But after my Heatherette day, I've digressed back to boring. Oh well :)

Hope you're having a good Thursday!

LOL i have to say, i ALMOST love the title of this entry more than the look. Great look as always, but "The No-Brainer Purple Smokey When Time Is Of The Essence", that's hilarious =) very straight forward!

na said...

Beautiful look! Purple is really your color. :)

My rushed look always consists of black eyeliner, a champagne shade all over eyelid, and brown eyeshadow smudged above the lashline. Perfect for those days when I want to get 5 more minutes of sleep rather than do my makeup!

I feel like I haven't talked to you in a long time! How have ya been? :)

Happy Friday crazychick!

I LOVE Moonflower! I keep thinking I have Moon's Reflection, but it is indeed Moonflower. And can I tell you that is looks fab over Delft p/p?!? YUMMY.

This look probably took me a full 15 minutes from putting moisturizer to finalizing with lips. I wish I was gifted enough to get it down to 5. But seriously, if I ONLY had 5 minutes, I'd skip makeup entirely. I'm either I go all the way or none at all, lol.

I think I have ZA at that grocery store I get my NYX from. I don't remember but is it that type of brand that you can find at a grocer? Or something you'd find at a counter?

I like Telescopic. Definitely makes the lashes bold. Plushlash I think is alright. I think you might be better off with the Lash Blast because to me, they are similar but Lash Blast bristles separate better. I have heard loves on Zoomlash so one day, I'll break away from CG to try it, lol.

I haven't tried it yet, but I can imagine the Cleanse Off Oil to be fantastic! It doesn't surprise me that it smells divine. Most of MACs products have that "MAC smell" to them, lol. I was at the beach one time, and I was like *sniff* "I smell MAC". My friend was laughing at me, lol.

I'm so jealous! I wish I can say that I did a getaway to Bali!! Sounds so exotic. Have you ever traveled to the states yet?

I'm feeling MUCH better hun. The next day I was back in working order aside from a drippy nose and some sneezing. But body-wise, I'm glad I stuck the Big Tyke in front of the tube ;) Lol.

Have a great weekend my dear :)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi LeAnne!!

The makers of Monistat create a product known as "Chafing Relief Powder-Gel". Essentially it is a skin protectant used for combating chafing and irritation which can arise from movement, moisture, shaving, etc.. normally in the inner thighs, underarms, bikini area...

When you apply it to your skin it creates a barrier to protect irritation from rubbing. The main ingredient in the product is Dimethicone which is the same ingredient used in makeup primers for their smoothing abilities. The formula is very VERY similar to Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer in which it goes on like a gel but dries to a smooth finish. Really baby soft!

I use it to prime my face for foundation. It fills in the finer lines creating a barrier between my skin and the foundation giving it a more evened out canvas.

And for only like $7 for the tube, it's a much better deal than fronting $15 for a MINI tube of Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer.

Hope that helps hun :) Have yourself a great weekend!!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks BeautyTalk. Purples are THE Go To Color! Hah. So easy, yah? Do you have any other colors that are go to for you?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Divine Blackness,

You should ask the MAs next time if they have any still. When the promos are done, they'll take it off the counter but will still have the products in the drawers. You never know girl :) I say you hunt that sucka down!! Hah.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi evo!

Signed, Sealed is NOT LE. Woohoo!! It's part of the Matte2 Collection and that is a permanent line. I love this color and it's the perfect outer V color. I cannot live without this one, hah.

Do you have any colors you can't live without?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey cindy,

Sounds like you have yourself a nice little smokey eye going on also! Can you image that I actually don't have those colors except Carbon? Lol. I need to load my collection with some browns.

How is your Friday going so far hun? Any weekend plans yet?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

P.S. I'm so glad you got those lashes cindy. And lucky for hubby ;) Hah. Btw, what state are you in and where did you find them at? I always run into readers that cannot find a retailer that sell NYX.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Sis Nessa! How is that little bunny bun of yours doing? At least you only have to chase it and not worry about crying, lol. I'd like to trade in the exercise for a moment of silence ;)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks BeautyChick101!

Do you have a favorite shade you run to when pressed for time?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks a bunch Tracy :) Of your minerals, do you have a set in which you run to during pressed moments?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Oh Distinque, I can't pull anything off in 5 minutes, lol! This one was actually pushing 15 which is still "WOW" for me, lol. I'm either an all the way makeup person, or no makeup at all ;)

How is school, girl? This semester is almost done, yah?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey missjaclynrose,

I'm the same way, sis. It's either full makeup or no makeup. But since I wasn't trying to be complex, it definitely cut my getting ready time down, lol.

I miss you girl! I know you're busy too even if I have to compete with WoW ;) Lol. Hubbo used to play that all the time. Well, that and Counterstrike. He only plays now when the kids are asleep (that's a rule in our house).

But you know I can't wait for your email when you get a chance :) It's always great email convo-ing with ya :)

How are the kids and Mr. Man?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I agree MandyPandy! I feel like I want to smoke out every look I do. I think I look a little too scared when I don't, lol.

And I LOVE gunmetal gray! My favorite color of all time. That exactly the color of my truck, hah.

How are you doing, girl? Did you get up on that Sally Hansen foundation yet?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Glosslizard,

I guess you can consider 15 minutes a rush job seeing that I normally stretch it out another 30 minutes, lol.

What have you paired your Nice Vice with lately?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I think it has to do with our warmer skin tone Mukho. Because sometimes we just need something subtle in our crease and pinks create a good amount of depth without the distinctness of a brown, you know?

The name Berry Bloom sounds amazing! I already have thoughts as to what color this may be.

How has your week been so far? Do you have to work on the weekends as well?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I have those days too nilla cookie! I really try not to repeat my looks just to keep my creative juices flowing with the minimal days that I actually do wear makeup but I've been looking kind of carbon copy lately, lol.

Do you and the bf have plans for the weekend? Any fun foodie ventures in the works?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hah, thanks imee :)

How are you doing, girl? Anything new happening where you're at?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Emilee!

It has been a while, huh hun? I totally miss you! I've been doing a lot of Google Reader lurking lately only because now that the babe is getting older, things are really posing to be more challenging (read = lack of comments and days between posts). I can't just stick him in the crib anymore, lol. I wish I had a babysitter, but then again, if I did, then I could probably work during the day to make some money, right? Lol.

What's been going on with you girl? Btw, I know I told you before, but I love the new layout. Did you do everything yourself?

LeAnne@Hairs My Story Team said...

You just saved me $36. Very smart idea. Yes, purple is a vastly underated smokey eye color... as well as green

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Do you use a primer under your foundation LeAnne?

I agree! When people think smokey, they just think dark panda eyes. I like to smoke out everything! I'm so spoiled by the act, I think I look shocked without it, lol!

Have any fun plans going on this weekend?

Anonymous said...

I pair just about everything with a soft, muted gold (Shiseido Lemon Sugar or, more recently, Laura Mercier metallic creme eyshadow in Gold) with the gold at the inner corner and the Nice Vice smokin' up the outer V. I also pair it up with a neutral, pink-based eye (think Perky with some pinky-browns to go with).

Pretty conservative overall, but I don't like to look like I'm trying too hard when I'm picking my kids up from preschool and first grade! LOL!

nilla cookie said...

Hey Lynne!

I'm down in Orange County right now, getting ready for my cousin's baby shower :)

The Boyfriend isn't with me this time, he's on his own with his friends but hopefully we'll get to go out to dinner since I know he'll miss me so much! LOL

What do you have planned this weekend?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I like the sound of gold and purple together. When it comes to wearing gold, I tend to lean towards that combo. Gotta have me some purps, hah.

LOL. Ain't that the deal when you have to look like a "parent", hah. I tell Hubbo, "at least when the kids get older, their friends will want to spend the night at OUR house if I look good". Then that means I won't have to worry about them being out, lol ;)

The kids must be having so much fun at school. I bet your fridge is decorated all crazy!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

I'm sure he misses you dearly nilla cookie! He's probably picturing you with those dazzling lips and can't wait for you to come home ;) Hahaha.

I don't have any plans other than to update my kids' picture website. I have photos of them that categorize on a weekly basis for our family and friends in the mainland. I'm VERY behind and am trying to get on that since I'm getting scolded from my family, lol. Well, not really but you know what I mean.

Have a safe trip back love if I don't talk to you before then :)

Anonymous said...

Ha! I can barely even find the fridge under all the stuff! ;)

na said...

Aww, how old are they? I don't think I ever asked you before!

Not much has been going on with me. Just relaxing in anticipation of the storm (finals!). I haven't done anything special makeup-wise in such a long time! It's also been pretty hot these past few days, so I've just been baring it all instead of slathering on makeup.

I'm quite fond of the new layout myself, especially since it took two weeks to tweak everything right! lol. There was always missing text or images; just when I was ready to give up, I finally realized that I had forgotten to link an important image, haha. I did do everything myself, although I don't think I'll be changing it for a very, very long time! :D

I miss you, too! It's great to see how much your site has grown. :) Way to go, makeup mama! :)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Emilee,

My oldest is a little over 2 years old and my youngest just turned 6 months a week ago *sniffle*

Good luck with finals, hun! How much more do you have of this semester and school overall?

I know exactly what you mean about being sans makeup during the hotter days. Especially when it gets humid here, sometimes I like just being able to put a cool towel on my face without having to worry if my makeup is going to run down my face or not :P Hah.

You did such an awesome job with your layout! After I saw it, I wanted to start tweaking my again too. And don't you hate it when you forget something like a link? Especially since sometimes the only way to check it is to save your changes and view it, THEN go back and modify it. It kept on bugging me with my comment images because it wasn't showing up and I had the link in my stylesheet. Then I realized I had another piece of code that was taking precedent over the link. But boy, the headache and lucky I just caught it, hah.

And thank you kindly for the encouragement my dear :) I honestly never expected this thang to evolve the way it has, but can only be grateful for supportive readers and blog sisters :) I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about since I've notice you too are evolving and incorporating bigger thangs for your readership. It's great watching everyone grow through this experience though. We've only known each other for a short time, yet I feel like I've really bonded with a lot of people and seeing them claim their domains, and stepping up from what they started with really is just so amazing to watch. Keep up the good work love!

Do you have any special plans for this week aside from school?

Anonymous said...

Not unless you count piling stuff into boxes and sticking them into the garage as "scrapbooking"! ;)

Do you?

(g)ezebel said...

wow!! this whole look on you looks so sophisticated! very classy. :0)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Glosslizard!

I used to scrapbook.... well, actually I have all the accessories to do scrapbooking just too lazy to get the digital photos developed and then organize it accordingly to stick it into a photo album. This is primarily the reason I just stick the tykes' photos on an online photo album so that friends and family have access to their pictures. All I have to do is upload the pictures and voila! Saves space and no mess to clean up after ;)

If you want to check it out, just email me and I'll hook you on up with the password.

Hope you're having a great Thursday so far!
