FOTD: Layin' Low And Going Smokey With Franchesca's Mineral Eyeshadows

Ever since I was a newborn here on blogger, my lovely sis Christiana at Memoirs Of A Shopping Addict, has graced with me since the beginning. You never know who you'll meet here in this beauty blogosphere and I've been honored to have her friendship right from the beginning.

Through Christiana, I was blessed with the opportunity to test out some mineral eyeshadows from Franchesca who runs a test shop in Yahoo Groups: testing123mmu. The three mineral eyeshadow colors I used are Indigo Summer (navy blue with blue/teal frost), Sugared Mulberry (mid-tone purple with silver frost), and Black Raspberry (deep eggplant with red and blue frost) to complete this look. MAC Shroom e/s was only used to highlight the browbone and inner tear duct, while I took advantage of Fafi's Layin' Low paint pot as a base.

And for those that are wondering, this is the look behind the picture I used in my Welcome to MakeupFix.net post.

Monday is already done and over with. Are your hearts beating fast for the upcoming MAC Beauty Powder Blushes?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

Sexy mama! ;)

p.s. I stopped by MAC the other night, and got Layin' Low paint pot. I was all anti-paint pot, and now I'm a convert! I did, however, get a Sea Me shadestick because it's the most vibrant blue I've ever used. Enough random ramblings. :P

wow everyone seems to be using Franchesca's colors. hmmm gotta cop me some of those too.

Anyway non-beauty/makeup related topic, I've been meaning to get in contact with you! the bf is back there in Hawaii... i was wondering (besides the Zippy's chilis haha), what can i get from there that's not available in Cali. Aside the routinely macadamia nuts/chocolate. Any recommendations?

ooh also... by any chance do you know a restaurant that serves spam on everything on their menu? I saw it in the food channel like a long time ago but i forgot what it was called. it's supposedly famous over there.

thanks lynne!

this is like the first smokey look i saw from you that i can remember! its really pretty. its smokey yet you can still wear it during the day.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Emilee!

Is this your first paint pot? OMG, my goal is to own them all one day! Lol.

I like Sea Me. Don't own it but I know its so pretty. You should check out Delft paint pot. THAT is my all-time favorite in color!!

Aww... thanks love for mentioning me. I feel all special now. *grins* haha. :D

I Loveeee the look you did with Franchesca's colors! I'm going to have to link her to this blog entry, plus she loves beauty blogs so she'll love your blog as well! :D

Hey Anne!

Sugared Mulberry and Black Raspberry are sooo pretty. Plus their purple so it's just a given that I'd love them!

Li Hing Mui, if you eat those dry sweet/tart plums. We ALWAYS have those around. Samarai in Aiea has some good candies that we always grab from. Spam Musubi and Poke if you like it. And of the macadamia nut/chocolates I like the MacCrunch. They're in the shape of Reese's but with chocolate and chopped macadamia nuts. Similar to that of crunch bars. YUM!

Honestly, I don't know of a restaurant that serves Spam on everything. I know that we do have a lot of spam choices on the menu but not a specific restaurant that only has dishes made of spam. We have a Spam Jam here every year which showcases many dishes with spam, but it's not a restaurant. Ooh, ask your bf to go to the Times or Don Quijote to bring back some different spam flavors, if that's something that interests you. We have shelves full of different types of Spam.

And if you're a fan of Haribo gummy candies, Price Buster has the biggest selections to choose from!

Ok, I hope that's what you were asking for :) Let me know if you have other things in mind, k?

Hi Muse!

Thanks lovely. I'm just trying to be as gorgeous as you are and have a decent layout while I'm at it, lol!

How is your day going so far?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks Xuanie!

It DOES look like the inspired smokey look that I did, huh? Hah. The only difference is that I used purple for the crease area (instead of brown and silver) and navy blue on the lid (instead of dark gray), hah!!

For me, I would wear smokey during the day even though most would advise to wear it only at night. But then again, I'm not good at following rules, lol.

I'd like to see you pull a smokey eye missy! You'd look so sultry -- I can see it already!

Hi Sis Chris!

You bet girl :) I actually emailed Franchesca last night and she responded back to me this morning! I really admire that when she got back to me that it wasn't just a small impersonal email response, but rather a lengthy one which made me feel like I really connected with her. She is a sweetheart and I know she has some great things in store tailored for our kind of undertones.

How is your week going so far?

I love it sis! You look gorgeous in anything...even without makeup! *jealous* and I feel ya on the illegal online gambling, crazy-eh?

Oh how I wish we lived near each other! That would be so much fun! I can babysit too so yo and the hubby can have alone time! :) LOL

I plan on visiting the island again soon, saving some mula now so I can take a nice lil vacay down there and sip on some tropical drinks with ya!

aw shucks I'm not nearly as gorgeous as you lovie!

Loving the layout well done ;)

*hugs*

I'm doing great for a Tuesday how about you!?

ruthie said...

I am loving the combo of dark grey with the purple/raspberry shade - I am totally going to have to try that out. You are such a good blender! :)

Karen said...

Dangit you make me wanna get some Nyx lipsticks! I can't get them up here and they always look so fab on you.

Your brows are looking HOT by the way... whoo hoo! Watch out!

Krystle said...

My wallet definitely does not like you because you make me want everything you use! LOL. But hey you prove to me that our skin color can pull off colors well. lol.
Anyways... I love purple smokey looks. They are so pretty!

I think I will take your motherly advice and get shadester. Or else give up on sculpt and shape all together. LOL.

I would get the SD1000 because it has a viewfinder. LOL. Thats basically my only reason because when I compared the 750 and 1000 to one in June, they offered the same features. The only gripe really have about my 750 is that there is no battery meter. It only shows up 5 minutes right before it died! I learned that the hard way because the symbol of death showed up right before my bf and I went into Copia (in Napa). He wasn't too happy that we have no pix of that.

Jenn said...

hey girl!! i forgot to complement you on the header pic!! those eyes are so mesmerizing!! you're so talented!! :D

that being said, this is a very pretty smokey!! i can see myself wearing this to the office and not look OTT.

1 question, does the shadestick tug on your lids? mine is really hard even brand new, and i'll have use it rather forcefully before i can see some color on my lids :(

btw i've linked you! :)

Lani said...

i can't get enough of your eyebrows. i love em! this is a really pretty smokey eggplant look. ;)

Jaclyn Rose said...

twin, you look so fabulous.

I picked up some NYX lippies on cherryculture.com yesterday and I used your FOTDs to get the color names. let's hope they look good on me as they do on you.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Sis Nessa!

Thank you for the compliments. I have to say that YOU look more gorgeous in all your looks though hun.

Oh girl. I would LOVE it if you lived closer! You can hang with the tykes anytime. They would LOVE you. I'd probably be hearing "mommy, auntie is so pretty!" Lol :)

I long for the day that I can meet you in person. I know we'd have such a great time and it'd feel like we we've known each other for a long time. Amazing that a friend-/sister-ship can build like that online, huh?

Love ya sis! Hope your week is going well :)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Sis Ren!

Thanks love. I wish I was gorging it like you and your fancy new locks!

So if you had to choose one paint pot to have and to hold, which would it be? Is it Layin' Low?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Muse!!

You are such a sweetheart girl. Thank you for the compliments. I had to make it girly - you know ;)

Well, now that it's Thursday, I'm doing much better than Tuesday, lol! Only because tomorrow's Friday - yee!!

So are you going to be checking out the new Beauty Powder Blushes?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks Ruthie. But trust me when I say that I still struggle with blending sometimes. Some of the not so great blending looks are even featured in this blog - yikes! HAHAH. But that's when it boils down to practice, practice, practice :)

Btw, are you a MAC fanatic as well? Or is your heart locked on another cosmetics line?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Karen!

You don't have access to NYX there? Oh, I wish I knew where you could get some. They are sooo spankin' cheap girl, you can probably haul the whole collection in one purchase!

Thanks for the comps on the brows, yo. If only they looked like that and I didn't have to fill them in, lol.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

LOL. Oh, Krystle. My wallet feels the same way when I see other looks from other gals. And when my wallet can't afford it, my heart hurts even more! Aye!

I really like the sculpting duo. Even when I fake the natural, I NEED me some blush and contour depth only now because I'm starting to spoil my cheeks with them. Darn makeup! Lol.

I checked out the SD1000 and I'm such a girl to think that I wish it looked better, lol! I'm also checking out the SD850 also because that was getting good reviews. I think when I saw it at the store though that it's screen was smaller than the SD750. I kind of need a larger screen to see the clarity in my pictures especially since I'm incorporating clickable images now. We'll see.

What are your plans this weekend? Is BF working again?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi my sassychix! Thank you girl :) How is business going on your side of the world? I wish I was closer to get some hands on from ya!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi crazychick!

Thanks for the header compliment. A friend of mine actually went and touched that photo up for me so that I can use it on here. She did such an incredible job, huh?

I think the key to a good smokey eye during the day is using grays or dark blues. The offset from straight black definitely makes a difference when the sun is shining out.

And to answer your question, shadesticks DO tug on my lids. I've watched videos of girls using s/s on their lids as bases and it seems to glide on so effortlessly and smooth. Not for me girl. I actually need to stretch out my eye to get a decent layer down. So I only use the s/s as a base for my lower lashline instead since that doesn't require much tugging. Paint pots are my color enhancing bases for the lids :)

What color shadestick did you get?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Thanks Lani! Sugared Mulberry and Black Raspberry as soooo gorgeous in person. They have this lovely sparkle to them that is so finely milled that it's just perfect!

How are you weathering on your side of the island? It's definitely warming up here in the Leeward side *wipes forehead*

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Twin!

I have to check your blog to see if you posted the colors you got! I'm excited to see your looks using them. I hope that they work for you :) I really like NYX Lips (except the ones with sparkle).

Tracy Roa said...

hi, lynne! i'm on the t123 mmu forum, and saw franchesca's post about your blog. i really like what you did with the colors. i'll have to try out that color combo. so, you're from hawaii? my boyfriend's from there, too. anyway, i think you have a great blog here. take care and have a great weekend.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hi Tracy!

Thanks for stopping by. I love Franchesca's eyeshadows. It's actually the first time I used mineral eyeshadow before and I was very impressed with the quality of the colors.

What part of the island is your bf from?

The Shades Of U said...

You look so hot!! Yay for you trying out minerals, I can't wait for you to try other mineral shadows because you can really rock ANYTHING. I've also lined up a review of Franchesca's e/s on my blog, and you really do justice to the pretty colors. :)

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Hey Shades of Hue,

Thank you for the wonderful compliment! I'm definitely not used to loose e/s so I'm glad I did a good job pulling them off, lol.

How was your weekend hun?
