MAC Swatches: Fafi Collection 2008

If you are admittedly addicted to MAC products like your gal here, then you had your named registered for the MAC Fafi Unveiling Party at your local MAC store to make sure you had dibs on the goods! With appetizers (or pupus here) and drinks (and we're not talking punch or sprite either!) to be served, it was sure to get people buzzing, literally, on the new products soon-to-be out on display.

The event started at 5 and I arrived a few minutes before 5 o'clock and the line was well on it's way to the store two doors down from MAC. I don't know why I was thinking
I was going to be the only one in the whole world attending to not have gotten there sooner. The doors didn't open on time, as usual, but I eventually made my way into the Holy Land.

Yay! Almost there...

The real life Fafinette getting dolled up. Not sure which one this is... Eriko, Monoka and Ermine.

One of the main reasons I have huge hearts for MAC is because of product pigmentation. I mean, just look at the arm warmers, long socks, and necklace that's painted on this girl! Wet'n'Wild ain't got nothing on this!

After standing in line for 30 or so minutes to pay my bill, I finally escape a jam packed store with my stash in hand getting a kick at all the people still in line... good luck!

Have you decided yet?

Hiya, Mrs. Lynne!

Ooh, I didn't know those arm warmers were painted on with MAC O_O That is AWESOME!

Thanks for the swatches :D

In your opinion, which of the paint pots do you recommend for a nice neutral base? I'm a bit lighter than you, I think :)

Have a fabulous week xx

Mahalo plenty for the gorgeous swatches! I mainly have my eyes on the paint pots, and a couple of glosses but nothing else really interests me.
I'm assuming you went to Pearlirdge? I hate that they put in a freestanding store there after I left Hawaii! :( I rarely went to Ala Moana cause Pearlridge was so much closer to me (not like Ala Moana is aaaaaallll that far away from AMR. lol!)

Kristy Q said...

Hey!

I just finished placing my order online, based totally on the swatches at Specktra and other beauty blogs! WOW. Yup - I sure hope I love it all :) I picked up 3 paint pots, 2 lipsticks, an iridescent powder, and a lipglass! Whew...

mayaari said...

I think I want the Fafi dolls more than the makeup, haha :)

The iridescent powders look nice, as does the PP in Girl Friendly & Layin Low...but I think I'm going to stay away from the MAC store, or go to the other MAC in DC where they don't know me!

Vanessa said...

Nice swatches sis! Luckily I didn't like TOO much from this collection, at first I wanted a doll, but then I said what the heck am I going to do with it? At least you have kids, lol. I have no one I can pawn it off on!

I love the Cash Flow PP, they didn't have Girl Friendly at my store yet since it wasn't shipped so they thought we were dummies by replacing it with Fresco Rose! Aiya!

Glad you were able to take some time to yourself!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Julie Hi Julie!! Isn't the Fafi girl sooo cute! It was really good entertainment watching her get put together since I was standing in line foooorever!!

Layin' Low is definitely the more neutral of the bunch as it is a beige but a bit darker than Painterly. But Perky I believe could do well in a neutral setting also. It's a coral colored paint pot.

Can't wait to hear what you decide to get from this collection :)

May Hi May! You're welcome girl :) I think Hipness is a very nice toned blush and is very buildable. Will you be hitting the store on the 13th?

Hijabi Apprentice Hiya girl! Let me just tell you that all the paint pots are sooo gorgeous. Cash Flow is like Pure Ore from Metal-X but in a much better formula! I would definitely get on that love, hah.

Ooh, more games! I'll be checking it out shortly after I get the tykes fed. Thanks sweetie. Hope you have a great week :)

Kuuipo1207 Hey sweetie! You are most welcome. You know, I think that the paint pots are sooo amazing out of the entire collection. Which is pretty much why I only indulged on those, hah.

And I was a Pearlridge. I don't ever go to Ala Moana unless we're in town and around that area. Other than that, I won't venture that far, hah. How long ago did you leave the island?

Kristy Q Oohhh, what a haul! I think you have a good variety and will be pretty happy with it. Plus the packaging is just too cute. And I think you will really like the iridescent powders. They really have a nice shimmer to it. Which colors did you end up getting?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Mayaari The dolls are collectibles so definitely get your hands on them!! I bought a set each for my kids so that when they're 18 hopefully they'll be worth some dough, hah. But be sure to get there soon because the MA told me that the company that made them only made a specified amount so once stores sell out, that's it.

And I think Girl Friendly and Layin' Low are excellent choices. Layin' low for the more neutral look, and Girl Friendly for the 'add a bit of spunk but not too much' look.

How was your weekend girl?

Nessa I bought all the dolls because they're collectibles and are supposed to double in value each year. So one set for each boy :) Hopefully by the time they're done with highschool, they'll be worth something so they can go to college. And trust me girl, they ain't gonna be playing with these, lol.

Girl Friendly is similar to Fresco Rose but more on the lilac side than pink.

Hope you have a great week!

hey lynne,

Thanks for the swatches.. I changed my mind on so many things.. Now I am patiently awaiting Heatherette..

Thanks for the swatches and event pics! I had my eye on Boom nail lacquer, but seeing as how it's alot more berry than purple, I'll have to pass.

MakeupByRenRen said...

hey honey bunches...i wanted to get nice vice but they were sold out by the time i wanted it which was like 6:30...lol. if you had to recommend one of the pinks to get which would it be? i think i'm going back on wednesday to get the other two fafi dolls, nice vice, a pink paint pot, and another lipstick.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Seymone I don't blame you girl. It's a pretty collection, but aside from the paint pots, I wasn't as captivated as I was hoping for my personal taste. I'm so curious about Heatherette also. Interested to see what's in store for us!

Will you be getting anything from Fafi or passing on it completely?

Anonymous Hi and you're welcome. Boom is definitely more on the berry end of the spectrum. At least now you get to save some dough, hah.

How is your Monday so far?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Ren Aloha sis! Nice Vice is soooo beautiful! It's definitely no wonder they were out right away. As far as pink paint pots, Girl Friendly is the only one. It's very close to Fresco Paint Pot but more gray. I actually thought it was a grayish lavender than pink. And Perky is more of a coral color with shimmer. But I really think that Girl Friendly would be the way to go plus it's a cream so good also for neutral looks.

I would definitely get the dolls. They are collectibles and only a certain amount were made for all of MAC. So once stores run out, they're out for good. I was also told that they were made by a very reputable toy making company in Japan. And the MA told me that they're supposed to double in value each year. I grabbed a set for each of the kids. Hopefully by the time they graduate highschool, they'll be worth some dough so they can go to college, lol.

What did you end up getting?

MrsDiaz said...

Hey Girl,
Wasn't the release party crazy? I ended up buying more than I thought I would, just because I need some lip stuff for my collection. I'm thinking about going back on the 13th to buy the dolls now. =p

"Wet'n'Wild ain't got nothing on this!"

LOL I hear ya girl! I LOVE the swatches. I agree with Nessa, I didn't like much of the products but I NEED to get my hands on those paint pot suckers!

Elizabeth said...

look at that chicks boobs! its popping out haha..

did that start at 5am or 5pm? thats crazy if the event started at 5am in the morning!

poo faifi won't be released here sometime soon i think, the dates are still unknown!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

MrsDiaz Hey sweetie. It was indeed crazy. I didn't know what to expect since I've never been to one before, but it was crazy to see other addicts in the house. I thought it was pretty classy though that they were serving drinks and pupus. Nice touch.

I'm thinking about going back and getting MORE dolls, hah!

Hope you have a great week hun!

shades of hue Yah. I definitely think that Fafi was semi-overhyped but it could just be a personal preference because I would go craz-IER if there was a collection that released a whole bunch of jewel-toned products.

But lemme just tell you girl that the paint pots are drool! And they would go nicely with your stash of She Space shadows!

Elizabeth Lol. Hubbo was like, "why didn't you bring me?!" when I showed him the pictures. That's his bad though because I told him he could come, plus it was free drank ;)

It was at 5pm girl. But since it was a Sunday, they stayed open just for the event because when I left, all the other shops were closed.

Boy, the love to keep you aussies in suspense, huh? Lol.

Great pictures as usual, thank you! Please post a FOTD using your new goodies! =) The 13th can't come soon enough..

Hope you're having a fabulous Monday!

yay! finally! what a teaser! i had to wait until i got home to see the pics (couldn't see them at work LOL) great stuff! looks like loads of fun AND PEOPLE!!! =) thanks for sharing! now on to the fotds! =p

Jenn said...

Thanks for the swatches girl!! They're so useful for people like me who live in a country where the Originals collection just launched like, 2 weeks ago *yawns* XD

i'm not feeling this collection too! will probably check out the lippies and blushes (just because of the packaging! lol!), but the rest look pretty bleah to me. what did you buy? :D

have a great week ahead dear girl! :)

Krystle said...

yay! thanks for the swatches! I saw them posted on specktra. lol. I didn't know you were on there too. haha. Anyways my dear same colored sis, I need your help. Out of all the lipsticks, what color would you suggest for me. Based on the swatches I've seen, I have been debating between utterly frivolous and strawbaby. Please help me pick one. I think you know my taste... I'm more on the subtle, natural looking side. hehe.

Guess who bought Intimidate this weekend? In the store it was pretty, but it seemed bright once I went outside. I think I'll get used to it. I looooove the texture. Oh and I missed slimshines the first time around, so this is my first! And now I want more! lol.

How was your son's bday?

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Randie Suspense is building for the actual release... dun, dun, dun. At least today is almost over so only one more day left to go. Hang in there!

Nilla Cookie Hey love! Those two are very pretty. Nice Vice reminds me of the purple in the Earthly Riches MES. And Cash Flow is similar in color to Pure Ore of Metal-X but much better formula to work with.

I picked up all the paint pots, the Fafi Eyes 2 quad, and 2 sets each of the dolls (my investment for the kids, hah). I'm debating on if I'll keep the quad because I'm not to sure if I'll be sporting those colors often enough. But at least I can sell it later if need be. I think for sure I'm keeping the paint pots. Those little jars are just too cute for me. I'm definitely a Paint Pot collector, lol.

My Monday is going great so far! Hubbo will have all tomorrow off so it's a middle of the week Friday for us :) How is yours going so far?

yummy411 Hi love! You must work at a bank or with the government because when I used to work at the bank, I couldn't view images for crap, lol.

It was so crazy yesterday. Everyone passing by the line was like "wth is going on??" I think it's rather crazy what we do for makeup, lol.

crazychick Hey hun! You bet. The Originals just launched? WOW! Super old news, lol!!! I don't think I could live where you're at. The suspense would kill me.

I made out with the paint pots, a quad (still debating on if I still want it), and two sets of the dolls. Overall, I think the collection is alright also. I'm just coo-coo for paint pots.

Thank you love. You have a great week also!

Krystle Hiya hun! Yuuup, I'm on Specktra. I remember when I first joined, I didn't sleep for daaays.

Between those two, it really is hard to say. Strawbaby comes off lighter but in multi-colored on the shimmer, whereas Utterly Frivolous is more coral with single-colored shimmer. I might go with Utterly Frivolous. But I say grab yourself a paint pot instead and get more lips from Slimshine. Can't beat the moisture in them :)

My Big Boy's birthday was great! We had a small gathering, but it's always fun spending time with family!

How was your weekend? Besides getting Intimidate-d ;)

Jaclyn Rose said...

ooooh, i like cash flow and nice vice. i might go ahead and pick those up. hopefully they have them in stock. *crossing fingers* oooh and those dolls are soooo cute, maybe i'll pick those up too. i would love to have those on my desk, in the box of course. LOL!

Anonymous said...

Thanks, mrslynne!

Layin' Low looks similar to Quite Natural though. How similar are they?

I'll defnitely be getting the Hipness blush :D

Christiana Divine @ Memoirs of A Shopping Addict said...

wowee! look at the pretty colors. :] those dolls ARE cute and how awesome is that that they painted that chick's leg warmers, necklace, and arm warmers on with MAC makeup?! that's pretty cool. :D hehe.

nilla cookie said...

Can't wait to see some of your pretty looks with your new haul! I'm kind of a sucker for palettes since I don't have to try and figure out which colors look good together - lol

Nice that you and Hubbo have the day to spend together today, hope you have something fun planned! We've got work all week but we're going out to dinner again on Thursday, YUM!!

Happy Tuesday!

Anonymous said...

Oh these look awesome! Thanks for the swatches! I really want to get some of these. I just need to figure out which ones I want most. ;) I really like Cash flow & Hipness. & also Totally It, Sugar Trance & Cult Fave.

sassychix said...

i saw the 3 fafi girls here in singapore last night! they were sooooooooooo adorable!!
Butthe eyeshadow colours of this collection doesnt realyl scream out. i love their glosses tho. Did you buy EVERYTHING???
How much did u spend??

Jaclyn Rose said...

i love the swatches of nice vice and cash flow that I went and ordered it on the MAC site along with all 3 dolls and one of the make-up bags. What does MAC do to us, huh? hehe.. i can't wait.. it's just too bad I can't go to the store because I have to work. thx lynne for the info and swatches.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

missjaclynrose Hey love! You know, maybe it's better you don't go to the store for fear that you might want to buy EVERYTHING in site, lol. I think you are going to love the paint pots though.

Have a great week hun. Halfway there already.. well, almost :)

Julie Hey girl. I think you mean Soft Ochre from N Collection, right? Quite Natural was the chocolate brown one. Soft Ochre is more of a softer yellow in color versus Layin' Low which is more of a mid-tone beige color.

And I think that if you like the Hipness blush, you might also like Sassed-Up or Verve-Acious Iridescent Powders as highlighters or all-over powders. They are pretty but also pass-able if you don't wear 'em :)

Chris I love the dolls. I'm almost ready to hit the store in the morning to pick up another set... Hmmm.

Nilla Cookie Like you're a sucker for palettes, I'm a sucker for Paint Pots. Something about the packaging just drives my impulses crazy. One day, I'll probably own every Paint Pot and every Fluidline just because of the darn packaging, lol.

We didn't do much today. He actually had to go see a school counselor which worked out nice because he never gets to go because of work.

Ooohh, dinner! Where y'all going this time? Is it in SF again?

giles22-atl You bet sweetie! Hhmmm,... I sense a lippie girl in the house! Hah. Cash Flow is gorgeous. If you had or seen Pure Ore from Metal-X, its nearly the same color just in a more workable setting.

Plus, all that stuff will come in cute CUTE packaging!

sassychix I would have loved to got made over as a Fafinette! It looks like so much fun.

The quads are ok. Fafi Eyes 1 would definitely get more everyday use versus Fafi Eyes 2 because it seems to house more natural type colors.

I wish I could get everything! I swatch everything for my faithful readers :) I only made out with what I pictured towards the bottom of the post: paint pots, Fafi Eyes 2, and the dolls.

What are you getting?

nilla cookie said...

Hey girl!

I've never tried Fluidline, I'm pretty minimalist when it comes to eyeliner. I use the same one almost everyday!

Does your Hubbo go to school also? Sounds like you've got a busy schedule!

The BF and I are going to dinner in the city again at a place called Two. The menu looks yummy and they have some special dishes for "two" for V-Day so we're going to check it out; I can't wait!

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Nilla Cookie Fluidliner is definitely one MAC product that has a learning curve. The thing I like about it is that it's gel and has a nice finish to it. It's also waterproof and really takes a decent makeup remover to come off. Guess that could be good or bad, hah.

Hubbo does go to school. Or I should say, will be going BACK to school :) Between him doing that, the two kids, me trying to keep this blog afloat, AND eat and sleep (lol!), the hours in a day are never enough.

Two, huh? How intelligently named it that?! We definitely know what they're niche is, lol. Oh, I miss SF dining.. What kind of restaurant is it? I can't wait to see your pictures of the date!

na said...

After the last MAC event that I saw (I didn't even go!), I'm staying away from those events, lol. The line was wrapped around the corner, and all these very confused guys were standing there looking. What could be so appealing that 50+ women would willingly line up outside? lol.

Anyway, the paint pots look gorgeous! I usually stick with my UDPP, but I might just have to pick up one or two along with my quads...and lipsticks...and lipglasses. Haha.

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

Emilee When I was standing in line, that is exactly what I was thinking STANDING there! Lol. There were so many people asking why we were in line. I tell you, we're all sick in the head!

You are too funny. Looks like you'll be getting a little of everything! The quads are eh. Got Fafi Eyes 2 but am probably not going to keep it. I'm just a lover of paint pots so I had to give homes to them :)

What was the last unveiling you went to?

Jackie said...

omg! i wish i had all the lipsticks. i was never that big of a lipstick user but strawbaby was a popular and i did kind of like it so i got it. and the hightop. everytime i see them i want the rest but its not as appealing to me in stores... i thought the fun n sexy was like extreme hot neon pink along with the similar lipglass but i was wrong and i regret not getting them! i'm so jealous!

LOVE paint pots so i got three but i went back to get the last three haha. 2/4 lipglasses. cult fave is so awesome and sugar trance was a lot nicer than i thought. the swatches at the mac site does NO justice for this collection. except for maybe the blushes. fashion frenzy was also too over the top for me but i got hipness and i love it. the quads are different from what im used to well the fafi eyes 2 atleast but i got 1 just to get it :p and WOW, you're definitely the FIRST person that showed the nail lacquers. i originally wanted girls will be girls buy my mac only had 3 and they were gone by the next day. so i got boom and i really do love it. i ended up ordering girls will be girls from ebay. didnt want to but i had to have it! lol.

awesome blog. i'm a first time reader. have a nice day!

Mary said...

I think I missed out on getting the doll....
Ahh, well.
I finally got my Fafi Eyes Quad 1! Yayy!

.. I'm a super poor college student.

Jackie said...

i don't think it's too late to get the dolls but i'm lazy and i really don't know if they will be worth more later... they might be but i'm not too sure. AND i'm not too familiar with ebay (selling-wise). just more of a reason for me not to get the dolls but i do kind of want them...

Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net said...

eikcaj Hi there!! And welcome :)

Boy eikcaj! You sure did a nice little haul didn't you? Very impressive. I'm not much of a lipstick gal myself except for when I do my FOTDs. Can you imagine that I don't even own any MAC lipsticks?! Well, only Bare Slimshine. But that's it! Hah.

The one thing I love about the nail lacquers are that they dry at a fairly decent rate. Too bad they weren't chip free, hah.

I got the dolls "just in case". I mean, at $9 a doll, that's a small "just in case" price to pay. Plus, the dolls are manufactured by one of the leading toy companies in Japan and the company only made so many for MAC. So I definitely had to get my hands on them.

Have a great day as well hun! Take care.

marasu3 Hey there girl! MAC is definitely unfriendly when it comes to college students. I'm not a college student anymore, and it's still unfriendly to me, lol!!

How are you liking the Eyes 1 quad so far?
