The following base trial is based on NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Lagoon applied with Homemade Mixing Medium OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (left eye) and NYX Chrome Eyeshadow in Lagoon applied with MAC FIX+ OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (right eye). Please advise that MAC Parrot e/s is used to further intensify the color base. Results for this base trial are reported as of the end of the day, unless stated otherwise. Directional cues are according to how you see the pictures on your screen (your left, not my left).
After experimenting with NYX's Chrome Eyeshadow WITHOUT Urban Decay Primer Potion under, my curiosity soared as to how the results would do WITH Urban Decay Primer Potion under. UDPP for me is the ultimate crease-free solution but vibrancy payoff isn't nearly as good as it can be when properly paired with another color base enhancer. Hand down folks, the results of this base trial are amazing!!! Even after an 8 hour test, the colors are going strong (and I mean strong) and no creasing!
And just to elaborate on the vibrancy, I was sporting these eyes when Hubbo and I took his friend out to eat since he was here on vacation. And the while the server was taking our orders she stopped, turned to me and said, "I'm sorry. I keep looking at your makeup because the color on your eyes is just so vivid". At that point I knew I had ran across a winning base combination.
I will be doing a base trial using Visine as a foiling method as requested by a MakeupFix reader, Arlene, so be sure to watch out for that if you're curious about it's staying power.

Color payoff
In the 8 hour results pictures, the colors got washed out because of the flash. But in reality, the color was just wow! I would probably say just as good as when I first applied the eyeshadow if not a notch or two lighter due to the day wearing on. But seriously, nothing dramatically different. I don't think it can get any better than this.
Crease Factor
Absolutely none!! This makes me very ecstatic because normally there would be a slight crease going on near my tear duct. But as you can see, 8-hours later, absolutely no creasing. At this rate, I feel like I could go another 8 hours and be fine. The UDPP has really redeemed itself with this base trial.
Ease of use/blending
It's fairly easy to mist your brush with Mixing Medium then turning to the pigment pot to pick up some color. Even after I placed MAC Parrot e/s over NYX's Lagoon Chrome Eyeshadow, blending was not a problem.
Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242 or 252, or the MAC 239 will work also.

MariahGem Hey girl! Homemade mixing medium is basically just 3 parts water, 1 part Glycerin. Depending on how often you'll be using this, you'll want to make them in small batches because you're not adding any preservatives so the mixture won't last long.

Rough Metaphors Hi there! I honestly haven't tried to foil with just plain water. I have a feeling though that it would probably foil pretty well over UDPP as you really just need a damp brush in order for the pigments to change properties.
As far as staying power though, I'm thinking that by having Glycerin (which is the other key ingredient in mixing medium) in the formula that it would help to maintain the color as the purpose of Glycerin is to keep moisture and water content in. Water on it's own tends to evaporate so my gut is telling me that as the day wears on, that the color could potentially fade quicker. I don't know for sure, but that's just my hypothesis. I'll put this to the test though because I haven't done a base trial using just plain water.

I think that the eye w/mixing medium is much much brighter than the one with fix+. Or maybe it's just the angle of lighting.
Ruby Hey you! You sure do have a meticulous eye! Hah. I personally didn't really see much difference. But either way, the payoff is still pretty darn good even if one is slightly dimmer than the other.
Do you use Mixing Medium for any of your looks?
I have a few times...but most of my looks are bold so I'm afraid of messing it up somehow because it's harder to blend w/wet shadows.
Also, when I tried foiling my pure luxe shadows, they flake off when I try to blend two colors together...is there a way to remedy this?
Ruby Hello again! I agree that it is rather difficult to blend wet shadows. That is why I only use it as a color enhancing base rather than an eyeshadow itself. I think because I have this huge fear of creasing that if anything is left creamy on my eye, I need to set it in place with a powder product to ensure it stays. Even the ones that have a dry finish, like paint pots, I have to put something over it. That's my makeup OCD :)
In regards to the eyeshadows flaking off when blending, what do the flakes look like? Are they like scales because the eyeshadow and mixing medium have already bonded? Or is it more powdery like excess eyeshadow dust? Also, what are you using as a base under, if any?
Hmm...I don't remember very well, but I didn't use udpp or any base when I experimented. Maybe that's why...I'll have to try w/a good base on.
