Base Trial: Paint Pot w/ Moisturizer OVER UDPP & Bare Canvas Paint

EYE FACTS:
Slightly oily lids
Double eyelid on the left-side
Lid skin is slightly loose
Sensitive eyes
Crease prone near tear ducts

The following trial is based on MAC's Paint Pot mixed with a bit of moisturizer OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (left eye) and MAC's Paint Pot mixed with a bit of moisturizer OVER Bare Canvas Paint (right eye). This trial was done for my Version 2 Parrot FOTD and results are reported as of the end of the day. Directional cues are according to how you see the pictures on your screen (your left, not my left).

I apologize for the bits of color that are missing on the inner lid. I actually had some teary moments that night and did my best to drain the tears from the corners. I'm just glad that most of the look stayed in tact.

Based on the results from this, I think I've found that Paint Pots w/ a bit of moisturizer over some UDPP are my new BFFs. Now I'm on the verge of dealing with the "must need" feeling to get every Paint Pot possible.

Has you discovered your HG eyeshadow base combination (if any)?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

Delft Paint Pot with Moisturizer OVER UDPP (Left-Eye)
Color payoff
Vibrant just like in the right-eye in my previous trial. I also think that because it was over UDPP, the consistency of UDPP helped provide a better color payoff. Do note that depending on the color of the Paint Pot chosen, that overall color of the eyeshadow may be altered. However the crease factor should be the same despite the color of the Paint Pot chosen.

Crease Factor
The crease is nicely in tact!! I love it!

In the last trial, I mentioned putting the base around or near the crease prone area instead of directly onto it, and I did just that in this trial for both eyes. I gently patted the base on the crease just to blend it with the base around it, but it does seem like it did the job well.

Ease of use/blending
It does take an extra minor step which is slightly moisturizing your brush before grabbing product from the Paint Pot. I would recommend transferring some of the Paint Pot product to another container when using this method as not to possibly contaminate the entire Paint Pot jar. Blending is even easier with this method due to the slightly extra creamy consistency that the moisturizer gives as well as the contribution from UDPP.

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242, 252 or a clean ring finger (UDPP).

Using it this way is great if you have...
Any type of eyelids!

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
UDPP is too drying for your eyes. However, by mixing the Paint Pot with moisturizer, it may be workable.

Overall...
Love it! This is my new BFF base method. This is exciting because not only can I have a wonderful color payoff, but a crease-free masterpiece as well.

Delft Paint Pot with Moisturizer OVER Bare Canvas Paint (Right-Eye)
Color payoff
Vibrant, just not as vibrant as the combination being put over UDPP. Bare Canvas Paint on my eye alone really sucks up the color and leaves the overall look more washed and dry. Even with the moisturized paint pot, it didn't deliver vivid results like I was hoping. Decent, just not the full potential of the color.

Crease Factor

Same as with the left-eye, crease-free! Oh, it feels so good to blink again.

Ease of use/blending
Same as above. Although Bare Canvas Paint is somewhat drier for me, it didn't take away from the blendability.

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242, 252, or clean finger (Paint). If using your finger for application, be sure that the product and the moisturizer are mixed before hand to ensure an even mix of both products.

Using it this way is great if you have...
Any type of eyelids!

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
eyelids that dry when using paint. If they are, you may want to consider using a Cream Color Base.

Overall...
It still works for me. Although using a Paint Pot w/ moisturizer OVER UDPP is ideal for me, I'm still satisfied with the results of placing it over Bare Canvas Paint.

Nessa Hey sis. I think paint pots are definitely my eye candy. I've loved them ever since they came out and after doing these trials and knowing that a bit of moisturizer with them over UDPP brings out their full potential on me, I am IN LOVE!

Chris Totally hot stuff, huh?! Who would have ever thought. I actually think it's kind of fun experimenting with the bases and all. But I'm glad that the information is helping. Just trial and error babe :)

Hi Mrs. Lynne!

I thought I read this post wrong, but you mix the paintpot with moisturizer and apply it as the base, then use UDPP over that? Then apply eyeshadows?

If so, *I* need to start doing that!! The colors came out so vibrant!

i know that UDPP is good stuff and so are PP's. they're both pretty sticky, too, by the end of the day. i have a hard time removing pp's with the pro eye makeup remover from mac. and you used UDPP PLUS a paint pot? that's just crazy! how did you manage to get that off?! do you have a GREAT makeup remover or do you scrub and tug at your eyelids like i do (as much as i don't want to)? please share if you have a miracle eye (and/or face) makeup remover because i am desperately in need of one. thanks! and much love to you!

Jenny Hey Jenny. Sorry, I didn't respond to your comment. It must have gotten lost in the emails :)

What I do is dip my brush in a bit of moisturizer then grab product from the paint pot and apply it to my lids that ALREADY HAVE UDPP on them. Then, proceed to apply eyeshadow like normal. I hope this clarifies it better :)

I hope you're able to enjoy it just as much as I do. It may not work for everyone, but definitely a combination worth trying out.

Have a great rest of the day and please let me know how it works for you if you do use it.

eikcaj Hi sweetie!! I actually don't find either to be sticky on me at the end of the day. Dry but not sticky. UDPP alone is a bit drying (could you have meant that?) but not as much as a MAC paint like Bare Canvas. And a paint pot alone on my lids leads to major creasing. It could just be the pH and skin type on my lids, but that's how they come out on me.

The reason I use UDPP under the paint pot is because UDPP is a crease-free solution for me. The only thing is the color payoff isn't exactly there because it's drying for me. Which is why I put a paint pot OVER as a color enhancing base and e/s OVER the p/p.

I don't have a problem either taking the paint pots off my lid. I use regular Maybelline makeup wipes and it does alright although I do have to use gentle pressure when wiping my eyes. It's not the greatest remover, but I can hang until I'm done with the pack. I'd like to get my hands on the Lancome Bi-Facil (sp?) makeup remover. I heard that that stuff gets through the hardest things like MAC fluidline (we all know how hard that is to take off!) in an easy sweep. It's a bit pricey, but considering that we want minimal tugging to prevent wrinkles, the price is worth the prevention, hah.

Hopefully I answered your questions hun :)
