Base Trial: L'Oreal HiP Cream Shadow Paint Alone & OVER UDPP

EYE FACTS:
Slightly oily lids
Double eyelid on the left-side
Lid skin is slightly loose
Sensitive eyes
Crease prone near tear ducts

The following trial is based on L'Oreal's HiP Cream Shadow Paint on it's OWN (left eye) as well as the Cream Shadow Paint OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (right eye). Results for this base trial are reported as of the end of the day, unless stated othewise. Directional cues are according to how you see the pictures on your screen (your left, not my left). Due to the purposes of this base trial, only eyeshadows were applied as opposed to finishing the look off with eyeliner, eyebrows, and under-eye concealer.

And else pick up some good buys from the L'Oreal BOGO offer?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

L'Oreal's HiP Cream Shadow Paint ALONE (Left-Eye)
Color payoff
The Cream Shadow Paint on it's own ate the eyeshadow right up! Hungry much?? Even after applying the Cream Shadow Paint all the way up to the brow bone, you can see from the crease on up that the eyeshadow just gets swallowed.

Crease Factor
Not doing so good. Sadly, this product ALONE does not do well for oily eyelids. And with eyeshadow at the bottom of the list for touch-up, this product will have to be paired with something to combat the creasing issue.

Ease of use/blending
Just like working with a MAC Paint, it's fairly easy to use. A little goes a long way with this product especially due to the creamy consistency. Blending is also nothing to be concerned about.

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the one included in the package, MAC 242, 252 or a clean ring finger.

Using it this way is great if you have...
Dry to normal eyelids!

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
Oily eyelids unless you pair it with another base to combat creasing.

Overall...
I was rather disappointed that the Cream Shadow Paint couldn't work on it's own. I can use MAC Paint on it's own but overall it does make my eyeshadow come out rather dry. With this dupe of a MAC Paint, it couldn't hold on to the eyeshadow even if it's life depended on it. But considering that this is a cream eyeshadow, it's initial purpose is to serve as an eyeshadow first then double as a base for eyelids who can support it. But the product still has hope to deliver if paired with the correct base.

L'Oreal's HiP Cream Shadow Paint OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (Right-Eye)
Color payoff
It held the hours of the day quite well considering I took the after pictures about 10 hours later. Impressive!

Crease Factor

Can we say "cha-ching!". There is minor MINOR creasing near the inner tear duct, but for me, that's not enough to push this to the back of the shelf. Like I said above, I knew there was hope for this product if paired with the right base. Now that may be a turnoff for those looking for that one-step wonder, but remember this is a cream eyeshadow first and a base second.

Ease of use/blending
Same as above.

Tools
Either using the enclosed brush or firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242, 252, or clean finger.

Using it this way is great if you have...
Any type of eyelids as UDPP is fairly adaptable despite to most surfaces.

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
If you're turned off having to use another product to get it to work.

Overall...
It still works for me. I also like that the color I got the Cream Shadow Paint in (Secretive) is similar to that of MAC's Soft Ochre Paint Pot (soft yellow) which is a great under support for more earth-toned looks. But this may be a turnoff for those who are strictly trying to do what they can with budget cosmetics.
If you're looking for a base for your eyeshadows, have oily eyelids, and don't want to venture to the mall for a base product, you may want to check into L'Oreal's De-Crease Eyeshadow Base.

This is an ongoing trial on eyeshadow base combinations for oily eyelids. Please be sure to check out the other Base Trials that have already taken place.

speedy review! this really helps the rest of us out with the whole trial and error process. I may be able to get away with using the HIP paint in the winter as a base, since my eyelids get a little dry.

So what was the other half of your BOGO purchase?

Uggghhh.....thanks for this. I was really looking forward to purchasing the HIP paints but I have extremely oily lids. Even in the winter time. Yikes. Beauty bloggers are going banana over the HIP BOGO. I need to get on it tomorrow before the sale ends. Love you, Mrs! Happy weekend!

Hey! Love your blog!

I actually have extremely oily eyelids, and while the creme shadow paint didn't crease, it wore off faster than I expected (after several hours). I have to say, it does wear off evenly and doesn't really travel at all.

I'm sad that I only found two HIP combos that I liked :(
I even went to two CVS's but still only two.
UGGGGHH
Anyway love hope you are having a good weekend.

for some reason, my eyelids have been really oily. my e/s creases now, even when i use paint. they never did do that before. ugh, i'm just waiting for my UDPP to come in. maybe i should try these paints? if only i could find them.

mayaari Oh what I would do to have dry eyelids! Then I can use my Cream Color Base. That would be the ultimate goal for me. Color payoff GALORE!!

Divine Blackness Unless you're looking to use this as a base on it's own, I don't know if it's be worth the purchase. But if you don't mind pairing it with UDPP, then I have strong hopes that you'll enjoy it.

Must let us know what you get from BOGO!! I'm so jealous so keep me in your thoughts when you ring up your goodies :)

MandyPandy Hi there and thank you!

I believe mine creased on me because I went into over time with it - 10 hours! But I wanted to make sure that it could stand a whole 8 hours and then the extra hours for getting ready and after work.

What is it that you're using as a base right now?

Anyhow, thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog. Hope to see you around more often :)

Anna You're too funny girl. But thank you, hah. How's was your weekend?

Shawnta Oh bummer ma! When I see the duos, I'm not all that impressed with the combinations either. But you an always mix and match outside of the duos too.

I had a good weekend, thanks girl! Hope your divas kept you sane :)

Lisa If MAC Paint is starting to crease on you, I wouldn't recommend L'Oreal unless you have UDPP under it. The Cream Shadow Paint is creamier than MAC Paint and is more prone to creasing unless it attaches itself to a dry surface.

I found them at Longs and Wal-Mart here. Will have to check Don Quijote to see if they have. Do you have that grocery store there?

bliss82 Hi there and welcome! I was in your shoes before girl. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't wear eyeshadow.

If you're looking for a base, and depending on what time of skin you have on your eyelids, I would suggest trying Urban Decay's Primer Potion or you can check out L'Oreal's De-Crease. If you have oily eyelids, the Cream Shadow Paint may/may not work without a secondary base. It really is just trial and error. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you around more often! Let me know if you have any other questions :) Have a great week.
