FOTD/Haul: The MAC Makeover

Initially a makeup artist from the Bay Area was supposed to be doing makeovers at my local MAC but had another project at hand. So the MA that I had was lovely lady that I have all the time, Summer. She's the Assistant Manager of the store and such a sweetheart.

My goal for my makeover was to check out a couple of different bases for eyeshadow: Cream Color Base and Shadesticks and to ask about contouring, more specifically, my nose. Lately my eyes have been changing on me and don't seem as oily as before. Not necessarily dry, but definitely less oily (could it be the new skin care regimen?). I'm actually in the process of testing a variety of MAC base combinations to see what's a go and no go for my new lids. I'll be posting my trials as I go along.

Since Summer was busy helping some people when I got there, I had more than enough time to go through and play with EVERYTHING, lol. And believe it or not, I didn't buy anything from Sculpt and Shape. The powders are about the size of MSFs and were very soft and silky when I applied it to my hand. But oddly, I just wasn't motivated to buy it. I may change my mind later, but if I do, I will definitely go for the Shadester/Lightsweep duo. On another note, the 139 is DAMN SOOOOFT!!!

Anyhow, on with it!

FACE

Studio Stick Foundation NC43 (188)

BROWS

EYES

Pearl CCB (252 - right eye)
Shimmersand s/s (blend w/ 252 - left eye)
Daisychain e/s (lid, highlight - 252)
Ochre Style e/s (crease - 222)
A Little Folie e/s (outer lid - 222)
Soft Brown e/s (above crease - 224)

Embark e/s (lower lashline - 219)
Zoomlash Mascara

LIPS
Caramellow c/l

Summer contoured my nose using a warm brown colored eyeshadow (Saddle e/s) and a not so dense dome-like brush such as the 224 .
Starting around the inner ducts of the eye, she dusted the shadow right along the top-sides of the bridge right down over the nostrils in a sweeping motion to deposit color and circular motion to blend. Using the same brush, she swept Brule e/s on the bridge of my nose to highlight. Contouring your nose along the top of the bridge will really give you that defined 80's chiseled look. After seeing the results, it was a bit too sharp for my comfort so I had her just go over my nose with foundation to tone it down. In case you were wondering why the pictures don't display a sharp looking nose, hah.

This method is just as effective as the contouring videos you see using
an angled face brush like MAC's 169 and contouring along the base/side of the bridge. A combination of both methods would work also it just depends on the look you're going for.

I ended up picking up A Little Folie and Daisychain to complete my Originals collection (not planned), as well as Hepcat and Sushi Flower. I really wanted Passionate, but they were out of the pallet form. I also picked up a Shadestick and Cream Color Base just to do more trial and error with them. And a while back, I got a sample of MAC's Lip Conditioner and after using it, I knew I had to pick myself up some. Works great for me.

We're going to be undressing our Christmas tree today and taking down the decorations outside to get ready for New Years. If there's one place to be at during New Years, it's definitely Hawai'i. All I have to say is that fireworks are legal here - enough said! Hah.

Anything you folks are doing to prepare for the New Year? Cleaning, cooking,...?

Aloha,
Mrs. Lynne

Wow, I love the make-over! I'm slowly getting into nose contouring myself. Ever since I saw my girl, Vanessa's video. I haven't been inspired enough to dedicate enough time to it yet though. So what's the verdict as far as bases? I purchased Hush CCB once and returned it the next day because it literally slid off of my eyes. Guess my lids were TOO oily for that. I like A Little Folie. Just haven't played in it too much. And if you can figure out how to make Sushi Flower work, please let me know! I have it and absolutely loathe it because it sucks for me. Hepcat, on the other, hand is one of my favorites!

In the car now headed to Miami. Yaaaay. Hope you have a fab New Year's! And oh....I think your gap is so cute! I didn't know you had one. I have one too and think they are just unique and fab!

hey mrs. lynne! lol i was looking and squinting hard trying to see the difference in your nose, but i finally found it LOL....

nice makeover.... of course i like a little more color (you do a great job!) ;) i think we strike good balances in our makeup in that we use color in a gentle way that's not scary or intimidating.

oh yes.. i can't wait to hear the verdict about the bases. ccb's creased and moved all around my lids. shadesticks are awesome, as are paints. i've also found that udpp with a light coat of concealer over it, is great for staying power and ease of blending (i find udpp by itself makes blending a biyotch!) good luck!

-Divine: Contouring the nose is such a neat thing because that means we don't have to shell out big benji's and a painful recovery in order to have a sharp nose. I doubt I'll be doing this often, but it's nice to know how to do it.

I'm still on trial with the CCB, but I have a few things in mind that I hope will work with it. I'm hoping they pull through though because the tackiness of a CCB will definitely take shadow colors to a whole new level, in my opinion. I used Vaseline once just to see the results, and the color payoff was like WHOA! So considering that Vaseline and a CCB are similar in texture, that would be my expectation in using the CCB under shadows. How I can get that to stay with oily lids is still in the making, hah.

And I will definitely do a Sushi Flower concentrated look that hopefully can work for you also.

You're so funny about noticing my gap because I actually don't like it. It's on my list of things to get fixed once I can afford some of those fabulous veneers, lol. But @ $1200+ PER TOOTH, I'll make due with a little space.

Anyhow, have fun in Maimi for New Years! Here's a toast to a prosperous new year, a positive expansion in our makeup collection and application knowledge, and that all this obsession keeps the bank at bay :)

-yummy411: i definitely like a lot more color but i think Summer doesn't know that I'm definitely a bolder makeup wearing and was just playing it safe. I even told her that I wanted to do a contrasting look, but I guess I should have said bolder look. Oh well, next time.

CCB on it's own is not a winner for me. But I'm determined to find a happy medium for it.

Anyhow, thanks for the tip on UDPP w/ concealer. That's actually on my base trial list, hah. Great minds think alike ;)

I'm sure I'll hear from you before then, but if not have a Happy New Years love!

hey hon...i think the makeover she did is a nice natural look...polished...:)

i know how you feel though b/c when you get your makeup done you want it to be bam with drama and color! there's always next time though.

i just got creme color base in HUSH and i'm a lil nervous about it after hearing yall's feedback...lemme know about that happy medium you find...oh and it's crazy how we both wanted passionate, lol...i'm going to add hepcat to my list though...i heard it looks great in the crease and paired with parrot, take care!

-Ren: I guess I'm just so addicted to loud colors, I forget how beautiful natural and earth-toned colors are.

Oooh,.. with Parrot? I'll have to try. Hepcat also looks very similar to Plum Dressing. Just FYI :)
