Base Trial: Cream Color Base OVER Bare Canvas Paint and Urban Decay Primer Potion

EYE FACTS:
Slightly oily lids
Double eyelid on the left-side
Lid skin is slightly loose
Sensitive eyes
Crease prone near tear ducts

The following trial is based on MAC's Cream Color Base OVER Urban Decay Primer Potion (left eye) and MAC's Bare Canvas Paint (right eye). This is taken from my Pink/Purple FOTD and results are reported as of the end of the day. Directional cues are according to how you see the pictures on your screen (your left, not my left).

Cream Color Base over UDPP (Left-Eye)
Color payoff
Still represents the colors as they were in the morning. This I really like because pinks on me normally dissipate as the day wears on. And you can tell that my lids are looking hydrated and not dry. Dry is what I'm used to.

Crease Factor
Although it does crease for me, at least it wasn't as bad as Cream Color Base on it's own.

Ease of use/blending
Easy. Just load your brush (or finger) and transfer the Cream Color Base after applying UDPP over your lid. Lightly pat the CCB on first all over your lid, then go back and smooth everything together. If you just glide the product across your eye, you'll have too much cream
deposited in one area. I used a brush but would suggest that using a clean finger would work better as your finger tends to apply product thinly and evenly. Especially if you have oily eyelids and plan on trying out this method, a VERY THIN layer of Cream Color Base is more than ample. As for blending, it was wonderful!

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242, 252 or a clean ring finger.

Using it this way is great if you have...
dryer lids. But if your lids are dry/normal, then you can probably wear CCB on its own.

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
oily eyelids unless UDPP is drying for you.

Overall...
No thanks. Not going to use it over UDPP.

**********************************

Cream Color Base over Bare Canvas Paint (Right-Eye)
Color payoff
A bit more vibrant than Cream Color Base over UDPP. This is probably because a layer of Bare Canvas is more drying to my eye than UDPP is.

Crease Factor

I experienced minimal creasing with this. But believe I could have better results if I applied CCB with my finger instead of with a flat bristle brush.

Ease of use/blending
Same as Cream Color Base over UDPP.

Tools
Firm bristles brushes like the MAC 242, 252 or a clean ring finger to smooth product out after applying to ensure proper and even product distribution.

Using it this way is great if you have...
any type of eyelid. But if your lids are dry/normal, then you can probably wear CCB on its own.

Using it this way is not so great if you have...
I think it's a great combination

Overall...
I really like it. This is exactly what I was hoping it would do and I will definitely be trying it again.

Hey Mrs Lynne, great review of the bases over ccb's. I tend to shy away from creamier products because they all crease on me and simply don't last since I have pretty oily lids.

Hi Mrs. Lynne,

I'm really enjoyinig your reviews on using different types of bases for your eye makeup! Definitely lovin' the reviews :)

-psychoex: You and me both girl! Cream on my lids alone just swallows everything up. But lucky the Bare Canvas is dry enough that it is able to hold the CCB better.

-Nilla: Thanks love :) I'm enjoying the experiment also.

i actually have oily lids, so this is great! :] yeah, the cream color base over the bare canvas paint definitely had less creasing than the cream color base over UDPP. :P ahh... if only we could have NORMAL lids. LOL.

Chris: you and me both. i can live with minimal creasing, but why not fix the root of the problem instead, lol.

I'm lovin' the reviews too. I still have yet to find the PERFECT non-creasing smooth base. Looks like you are well on your way. Heyyy!!!

-Angela: Hello and great question.

The Metal-X Collection has been one-of-a kind for my oily lids. I've noticed that for some of the colors in that collection, the formula is a little dry (Plum Electic) while the others I have are a tad more creamy in consistency (Metalblu, Pure Ore, and 6th Sin). Is it the same for you?

For the creamier ones, I would suggest Bare Canvas under as the paint seems more drying meaning it won't add more moisture to an already creamy product. The creamier it is, the likely chance of it creasing. For something like Plum Electric, UDPP under works better for me. Plum Electric is fairly dry when I use the product, so using something with a bit more moisture in the base makes sure that the combination is still blendable and tacky enough if you want to add and enhanced eyeshadow color on top.

Also, I recommend applying Metal-X with a clean finger to make sure it's thinnly AND EVENLY spread across your lid. This also helps in creasing. Plus, I've never had much success applying Metal-X with a brush, hah.

Hope this helps. Let me know if this works for you and/or if you find another way to make it work :) Take care.

-Divine: I think I'm having a fix for vibrancy. So my journey is trying to find a base that comes in accommodating colors to enhance that or at least one that is able to replicate the true pan color while minimizing the disgusting woe of a crease. If it can fully eliminate creasing then better. But I think that since my folds are slightly deep that some amount of creasing is going to happen anyways.

Thanks for your review on CCB! I own Hush and it just frustrates me! I too have tried it over a variety of things, UDPP, paint, paint pot and have come to the conclusion that my eye lids are too oily for it. So now I just stare in angrily at my CCB every time I see it in my case. I hear you can use it on your lips and cheeks. I found it drying on my lips, but it looks great with Tinted Lip conditioner over it. I havent really tried it on my cheeks yet but if you do let me know how that turns out!

-Krystle: I hear ya' sister. The only reason I WANT to make a CCB at least tolerable is because of the color payoff it provides. Other than that, cream products frustrate me period, lol.

For your lips, you may want to try putting on the Lip Conditioner first to keep your lips hydrated, apply the CCB and then add the Lip Conditioner again if you like the tint that it gives. I have super dry lips too and have discovered that NOTHING can go on my lips WITHOUT Lip Conditioner.

As for cheeks, I'm sure I'd be similar to using the cream blushes that MAC has. I tried a cream blush during a makeover a couple months ago and although I was a bit intimidated with the thought of CREAM on my cheeks (I'm just not a big fan of that sort of texture anywhere except my eyes), it actually turned out nice. For your cheeks, if the CCB color alone is too subtle, you can use it to hold another blush color in place :)

Anyhow, take care sweetie. Love to hear how it turns out for you.

-Karen: Hi! Just trying to hold true to my New Years Resolutions to upscale my blog with better content :) But the inspiration comes from you. Glad you approve! YAY!

-Mimi: Thank you! Sushi Flower is definitely going on my A list :)

Thanks for stopping by Mimi. Your site is indeed fascinating. Hope to see you again soon :)

-Angela: Just trying to help :) Hope to hear how it turns out.
